Lawrence received critical acclaim for her bold performances in every role she embarked upon. Many people fell in love with her portrayal of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movies which earned her a large fan base.
With that in mind, however, if you claim to be a real Jennifer Lawrence fan, you cannot miss these five must-watch Jennifer Lawrence movies!

1. Silver Lining’s Playbook (2012)

The story of Silver Lining’s Playbook centers on the unpredictable relationship that forms between Tiffany Maxwell, a young widow played by Lawrence, and Pat Solitano Jr., portrayed by Bradley Cooper. Pat is a divorcee who emerges from eight months of treatment for bipolar disorder at a psychiatric hospital.

Though Pat is intent on getting back together with his ex-wife, Nikki, he is restricted by a restraining order. Tiffany proposes a deal with him: she’ll help him hand over a letter to Nikki if he is willing to become her dance partner for an upcoming competition.

The setup, if it were in a typical setting of a romantic comedy, sounds quite clichéd. Silver Linings Playbook isn’t any of that, though. David O. Russell helmed and scripted the movie, which was based on Matthew Quick’s novel of the same title, fresh in ideas that do not follow the conventions of the romance film. The movie blooms with the unpredictable characters and the chaotic situations around them.

This movie brought Jennifer Lawrence her first Oscar for Best Actress, besides a Golden Globe and a SAG Award. In this respect, one can undoubtedly say that this movie is among her best performances.

Silver Lining’s Playbook is available on Apple TV.

2. Don’t Look Up (2021)

Lawrence portrayed Kate Dibiasky in Don’t Look Up, a PhD candidate in astronomy with some unusual eccentricities. She keeps a Carl Sagan figure on her desk but listens to the Wu-Tang Clan while working. She and her professor, Dr. Randall Mindy, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, discover a monstrous comet headed straight for Earth. They try to warn everyone about the looming disaster right away, even the president, who is portrayed by Meryl Streep.

However, the president is more worried about the upcoming elections than he is about that as a threat. This darkly politicized satire gives a twist to the disaster movie, as it dares to think what it would be like had these scientists been blocked at every turn by politics from preventing the global catastrophe.

Aside from bringing much-needed humor into the film, Lawrence also showed the public a new, bold look for the character. Sporting two nose rings and choppy bangs her new look fits in beautifully with Kate’s uniqueness.

Don’t Look Up is available on Netflix.

3. American Hustle (2013)

With the direction of David O. Russell, American Hustle was not going to be just any period film. American Hustle, which takes place in the late 1970s, is based on the actual FBI Abscam operation incident.

The movie revolves around a tale of two con artists, Irving Rosenfeld played by Christian Bale, and Sydney Prosser played by Amy Adams, and how FBI agent Richie DiMaso played by Bradley Cooper gets hold of them. Rather than sending them to jail, though, he offers them a deal which is to assist the FBI in making four more arrests, and the charges against them will be dismissed.

The professional and personal relationship between Irving and Sydney gets complicated because Irving is still married to Rosalyn played by Jennifer Lawrence, who is utterly unpredictable. He worries that she might take his adoptive son away from him if he tries to distance himself from her.

Lawrence shines in the role of Rosalyn, with “crazy-sexy fury” that brings an infection of toxic, manipulative energy to this character. She received a lot of praise for the role, and she was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar.

American Hustle is available on Apple TV.

4. No Hard Feelings (2023)

In No Hard Feelings, Jennifer Lawrence steps into a role that’s quite different from what we’re used to seeing her play. Directed by Gene Stupnitsky, this R-rated comedy tells the story of a 30-something woman trying to make it while she can. She answers an unusual ad from a set of parents looking for someone to date their shy, introverted 19-year-old son with the hope of bringing him out of his shell.

The film is rife with awkward, even explicit humor, flinging romance together with heaps of crazy, silly comedy. Lawrence’s character is placed in various comedic and chaotic situations: hit in the throat to an all-out naked brawl. Despite the outrageous scenes, Lawrence as usual, had a way of keeping the emotional core of the story in line.

No Hard Feelings is available on Netflix.

5. Causeway (2022)

Director Lila Neugebauer, known for her Broadway works, brings a distinct flair to Causeway. Jennifer Lawrence, who had been on a roll of high-profile big-budget movies, swang back to her indie roots with this movie. Lawrence plays the role of Lynsey, a U.S. soldier in the film.

Lynsey returns home to New Orleans after a traumatic brain injury from an IED explosion during her tour in Afghanistan. She moved in to live with her mother, played by Linda Emond, and her only thought at the moment was about going back to work. But the doctor says she is not ready to go to the field yet; there’s more time left for her injury to heal.

During her time of healing, Lynsey meets James, played by Brian Tyree Henry, an auto mechanic dealing with his own emotional traumatic struggles. The characterization of the relationship between the two is key to unlocking much of what happens in the story.

Causeway is available on Apple TV+.
