Tom Cruise’s Risky Business Co-Star and Former Lover on Kevin Spacey When Other Predators are Lurking: ‘I really don’t think he’s guilty’

Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey was first accused of s*xual misconduct in 2017 after Anthony Rapp alleged that Spacey had made s*xual advances toward him at a party in 1986, when he was just 15 and the actor was 27. Thereafter, Spacey faced multiple lawsuits and his career imploded at the height of the #MeToo movement.

Meanwhile, amid several other lawsuits, although Kevin Spacey was found not guilty in the July 2023 UK trial for assaulting four men, his accusers had described the Oscar-winner as a “vile s*xual predator”. However, despite the allegations against Spacey, Tom Cruise’s Risky Business co-star and former girlfriend, Rebecca De Mornay, defended the star after sharing the screen with him.

Rebecca De Mornay Defended Kevin Spacey Amid Assault Allegations

Despite facing s*xual assault allegations since 2017 and undergoing multiple lawsuits, Kevin Spacey returned to the silver screen in 2024, after emerging victorious in the July 2023 UK case, where he was accused by four men of assault. Although his career had faced a significant downfall during the #MeToo movement, Spacey crawled his way back into show business with the low-budget Neo-noir thriller Peter Five Eight

Appearing alongside Rebecca De Mornay, Kevin Spacey witnessed a hint of support, after the film was marketed as his comeback vehicle. Well, to be specific, amid the whirlwind of accusations labeling him as a “vile s*xual predator,” all the support Spacey received apparently came from his co-star De Mornay. The actress who previously worked with Tom Cruise in Risky Business, took it upon herself to stand up for Spacey, who’s currently at the center of a media storm. De Mornay told The Independent:

I think it’s really unfortunate, this entire sort of… politically correct handcuffing of everybody. That you’re afraid on so many levels to ever speak your truth because you might get canceled. But, simply, I love Kevin Spacey’s acting, and this whole thing of, you know, his trials and the accusations… I wasn’t there. But I really don’t think he is [guilty].

While audiences have been shaking their heads in disbelief, Rebecca De Mornay swooped in, expressing her desire to separate the art from the artist. Seemingly ignoring the assault accusations against Kevin Spacey, the actress simply tried to focus the spotlight on his works. Highlighting how Spacey has been a phenomenal actor with two Oscars under his belt, De Mornay tried sweeping the series of serious allegations under the red carpet.

Tom Cruise’s Risky Business Star Wishes to Work with Kevin Spacey Again

And when her defensive statement for Kevin Spacey wasn’t enough, Rebecca De Mornay further declared that she’d jump at the chance to work with the notorious actor again. Stating how she enjoyed working with Spacey in Peter Five Eight, De Mornay expressed her desire to collaborate with the star, if possible in the future. Well, it seems, for Tom Cruise’s ex-girlfriend, nothing seems safer than with a man with a laundry list of allegations against him.

I think he’s unjustly accused of a lot of stuff. I’m not sure why he was jumped on to the extent that he was. I think the timing was unfortunate with, you know, the Harvey Weinstein thing. But the bottom line is I chose to work with him because I love him as an actor, and I would work with him again.

I also want to say that if I really thought he was a violent predator of any kind, I would feel differently. But I don’t believe that about him. I’m not going to name them, but there are people whom I know or believe I know are violent predators, and those are people I wouldn’t work with.

Perhaps, Rebecca De Mornay is looking for more “risky business”, as she hopes for future collaborations with Kevin Spacey. In the end, while De Mornay firmly believes in Spacey’s innocence and offers her unwavering support for the actor, her comments invite scrutiny from people who simply consider Spacey as an individual with serious allegations.

Peter Five Eight is currently available to watch on Prime Video.
