Days have passed since we heard the news of Liam Payne’s passing but the heartache is still prevalent. With every message his loved ones send out, it’s like the dagger keeps digging in our hearts, deeper and deeper. Fans across the world are still in mourning as they reminisce the days of Liam Payne’s life whether it’s through his lyrics that hit harder now, candid fan interactions, or nostalgic interview moments.
A significant part of his life was the drama he was involved in with his ex- bandmate, Zayn Malik. Despite their ups and downs, Liam Payne had spoken highly of the Alienated singer. He understood all too well how much Zayn Malik had struggled to get to the point where he is now and he had nothing but respect for his old friend.
Liam Payne Opened Up About Zayn Malik
A couple of years ago, Liam Payne joined Logan Paul on the IMPAULSIVE podcast where he opened up about coming to blows with the other One Direction band members. He recalled how once an argument backstage led to a bandmate throwing him up against a wall.
This conversation led to the infamous feud between Jake Paul, Gigi Hadid, and Zayn Malik, and this in turn resulted in Payne going on a heartfelt rant about his ex-teammate.
He started off by saying how there were many reasons for him to dislike Malik but there were also many, many reasons why he will always have his back. In his own words, “There are many reasons why I dislike Zayn. Many reasons why I’ll always, always be on his side.”
Payne then talked about how Malik had a much different upbringing than the rest of them in the room in terms of having the family’s support right from the get-go.
If I had to go through what he went through, through his growth and whatever else. You know, your parents were very supportive. My parents are overly supportive to the point where it’s annoying at times. Zayn had a different upbringing in that sense.
The Polaroid singer admitted that it was easy to judge people based on where they are at in their lives at the moment, but one has to understand what they have gone through to get here.
You can always look at the man for where he is and say, ‘Oh, yeah, whatever, that guy’s a d*ck.’ But at the end of the day, once you’re understanding what he’s been through to get to that point — and also whether or not he wanted to be there.
Despite their differences, Payne clearly had much respect for Malik and we will always love him for that.
Zayn Malik’s Heartfelt Tribute to Liam Payne
Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Harry Styles all penned down their tributes to Payne after his passing but Malik’s will always hit different. He posted an adorable photograph from their past when the two of them were sleeping on each other and while it once would’ve brought a smile to our faces, it only brings tears to our eyes now.
In the second slide of his post, Malik wrote a long letter addressed directly to Payne. He started off by saying how he was talking out loud to his old friend, hoping against all odds that Payne would be able to hear him. He feels heavy about how there were still conversations that the two had to have.
Malik thanked Payne for supporting him through “some of the most difficult times” in his life. He also mentioned the times they “butted heads” and how he “secretly respected” Payne for it.
In the end, he wrote,
I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly….I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace….
