It’s a woman’s world at Russell Group unis… according to these stats, anyway. There are generally more girls than men at Russell Group unis in 2024.
This makes sense when you consider that Russell Group unis have very high entry requirements, and girls get 5 per cent more As and A*s at A-Levels than do better in A-Levels than boys do. I’m taking this as evidence that girls are cleverer.
According to Higher Education Statistics Agency, Oxbridge has way less girls than other Russell Group unis in 2024. At the University of Cambridge, only 50.6 per cent of students are girls. Cambridge Uni has two large colleges only for female and non-binary students, so all the other colleges must be letting in quite a lot of men.
Imperial College London and the University of Warwick are the only two Russell Group unis with more men than women. Both have a really strong rep for male-dominated STEM subjects, so maybe that’s why fewer girls choose to study there?
