Since its arrival on Netflix, Suits has rekindled in popularity and is now set to receive a spin-off, which will see the original showrunner, Aaron Korsh, return. Moreover, the main show’s premise deeply resonated with Korsh, as despite being in showbiz since the 2000s, the Suits creator feared he might not have it in him to run an entire show by himself.

Similar to Patrick J. Adams’ Mike Ross, who started out as a fraud, as he practiced law without a license or an undergraduate degree, Korsh too feared he was also a fraud.

Keeping in mind that it was his first foray as a showrunner, Aaron Korsh recalled feeling insecure about his chops during the pilot. Even though he had vast experience as a writer in showbiz prior to Suits, Korsh feared he might not have been the right person for the job, recounting, “I was like, ‘What am I doing here? I’m a fraud”.

He told Collider:

I think it was the first day on set, shooting the pilot, and inside I was like, ‘What am I doing here? I’m a fraud,” which is the basis of Mike being a fraud.’ Inside, I absolutely felt like that, no doubt about it.

On the flip side, it contributed to Mike’s character, as Korsh was able to incorporate his own experience into the character’s journey.

On the other hand, when I would see something, I’d be like, ‘Look, I think it should be this way.’ It wasn’t that I knew what I was talking about, better than anyone else. But, what I knew was that it came from me and I have a thought about how it should be done.

With the show running for nine seasons, which is set to receive a spin-off, it’s safe to say that the writer’s pessimistic intuitions weren’t quite right.

Korsh wasn’t the lone person who was unconvinced about their job on the show, as Meghan Markle was also in the same boat after her audition. Although her costar Patrick J. Adams felt she nailed the screen test, the actress herself was under the weather about the whole thing, as she recalled (via Express) fumbling her lines.

I blew it. That’s what I said to my agent after my audition for a pilot called A Legal Mind. I kept forgetting my lines, I was distracted, and I blew it. Which sucks because I really wanted this one. I really like Rachel. But I blew it. I wanted it, and I lost my shot at it. Or so I thought.

However, the casting department’s viewpoint aligned with Adams’, as Markle ended up nabbing the role of Rachel in the legal drama.

Suits is available to stream on Netflix.
