Silent Hill 2 Remake: How to Get the Dog Ending

The Silent Hill 2 remake captured what made the original version a success many years ago. While the story remains the same, it follows James returning to the eerie town of Silent Hill in search of Mary, his late wife. The game developers got creative and added a few alternate endings for New Game Plus.

Players will have full authority on how they wish to play the game and their actions will dictate how the story ends. After the initial playthrough, players can restart the entire story from scratch to unlock a few secret endings and some are outright hilarious, like the Dog ending.

The game developers added a few extra secret endings in this version of Silent Hill 2.

Bloober Team did not hold back with this remake and took full advantage of Unreal Engine 5 to deliver what the original developers envisioned for this game many years ago. The gaming community got a touch of nostalgia playing through the game once and can go for a second round with New Game Plus.

The developers added a few extra endings exclusive to New Game Plus and brought back the hilarious Dog ending. While most other endings are much darker and have deeper implications, the Dog ending is quite the opposite. First, players must acquire some broken key parts, including a dog paw at Eastern South Vale inside the Pet Center next to Big Jay’s.

Tip
James will have to explore Big Jay’s before Katz Street.

Another key part, the bone symbol, can be found at Katz Street in Western South Vale. The game developers left an obvious sign where to find this part by a white gate around an abandoned neighborhood with a bone symbol. Once both broken parts are in James’ inventory, they can be combined into a Dog Key.

Players will go to the Lakeview Hotel and come across the locked door of the Observation Room instead of Room 312. Players can trigger the Dog ending by opening the door with the combined key. James thought he could finally meet the person tormenting his entire journey, but would be surprised to see a dog pulling the strings from the start.

The Dog Ending Is the Much More Lighthearted and Funnier Ending of Silent Hill 2 Remake

The Dog ending is much more anticlimactic than other New Game Plus endings of Silent Hill 2.

Players will realize this ending is made for a good laugh and is nothing compared to the much darker and ominous outcomes like the Rebirth ending. James Sunderland is a man looking for a way to outrun his past sins and answers to end his suffering, but this ending is more of an insult than a straight answer.

The Dog ending suggests that a dog was behind the whole charade with a humorous tone when the credits start rolling with whimsical background music and dog barks. This is a nice change of pace from the horror element the game is renowned for and a chore for trophy hunters.

James will fall to his knees after realizing the mastermind is an adorable furry little dog and speak to it in Polish. It is worth noting this is a good callback to the fact that the game developers of Bloober Team are based in Poland.

While most players debate which one is the canon ending, it greatly depends on their actions throughout the story. Players will either find this ending funny or a massive waste of time and an insult to James Sunderland’s suffering.

Nevertheless, having a few options to end a story implies that Konami and Bloober Team wanted the players to create their own experience rather than being tethered to a fixed storyline.
