Silent Hill 2 is a huge success and the studio says it won’t make bad games anymore

SILENT Hill 2 is one of the biggest releases of the month, and it was hugely popular with fans and critics alike.

It has a huge 86 rating on review aggregate site Metacritic, and people love the changes that were made to the already excellent original.

Doubts were cast about the quality of the remake after Konami announced that Bloober Team would be in charge.

Bloober Team is a Polish studio known for making horror games of varying quality, and people were worried about leaving such a gaming classic in its hands.

Games from Bloober Team have never been terrible, but with ratings between 60 and 75, they never achieved excellence.

That is until SIlent Hill 2, and people were excited to see a new game from Bloober Team during the Xbox Partner Preview.

Cronos: The New Dawn is the next game by Bloober Team, and people are encouraged by Silent Hill 2’s success.

While they are both horror games, Cronos has a completely different look to the recently released remake.

Speaking to GameSpot, director Wojciech Piejko said the two games are: “different pizzas with different toppings both delicious.”

Cronos will be the studio’s first original survival horror IP as it’s not based on an existing game.

The Silent Hill 2 remake had an incredible game at its base, and fans are still cautious about how good Bloober original game would be.

But Bloober Team says it’s going to stick to its strengths, and deliver a game just as good as the Konami remake.

Director Jacek Zięba says that the studio will stick to making horror games to make sure they are strong going forward.

He says: “We want to be a horror company. We want to find our niche, and we think we found our niche, so now we just evolve with it.

“And how that happens is more complex, but it also happens organically in a way, like with Layers of Fear, people in the studio were like, ‘Okay, we made some s****y games before, but we evolve’.”

Piejko adds “We gathered a team that loves horror, so I think, for us, it would not be easy to switch [to other genres], and we don’t want to.”

Bloob or bust

We were impressed by the teaser trailer for Cronos: The New Dawn. The character designs and concepts felt fresh and interesting.

It’s a smart move by Bloober Team to stick to its strengths by building on the momentum from its last successful release.

We haven’t seen any gameplay yet, so it’s too early to tell if the core of the game will be strong enough to carry it.

Bloober is saying all the right things, but we won’t be able to see if it has turned things around until people have their hands on Cronos.
