Gabriel Macht earned a lot of acclaim for his portrayal of the sharp-tongued, impeccably dressed lawyer Harvey Specter in the hit legal drama Suits. The character was the epitome of being fearless, and also enjoyed a huge fan-following. This admiration was something that even took Macht by surprise.
The actor played the lead character in all the nine seasons. But despite this he struggled to understand why viewers idolized Harvey Specter, who was so deeply flawed and emotionally insecure.
Gabriel Macht’s Surprising Take on His Iconic Harvey Specter Role
Gabriel Macht has done some amazing work in the industry and has been a part of several shows and movies. But it was the legal drama Suits that actually skyrocketed his career in 2011, making him an overnight sensation. He became the face of the show, and everyone wanted to be just like him. But playing the sharp-mouthed attorney was not an easy feat.
Initially, it was really difficult for the actor to adjust to the show and its overall storyline. In several interviews as well, he admitted that playing a character like Specter was quite tough. But despite this his character enjoyed a huge popularity.
During an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Macht detailed how he was taken aback by all the fan admiration for Harvey Specter. He added:
There was a guy in New York who was like ‘I adore you, you’re my everything. And I was like, ‘Really? You adore the totally insecure guy who’s got to put people in place in a really aggressive, angry way?
Initially he did have some skepticism about his character and his demeanor. But as the show progressed this outlook of his started to change, and he appreciated his character’s evolution on the show. When he took over the producer duties of the show, he gained more creative inputs about Specter as well as his vulnerabilities. Talking about the same he also added:
When we started poking holes into his armor, and we actually reveal what it is about him and what makes him tick, that’s really, really engrossing for me as an actor.
Macht had some reservations about the premise of the show, which focused on Harvey hiring a college dropout, Mike Ross, who had never attended law school – a bit hard to believe. But as the show progressed and the characters developed, he started to actually enjoy the entire filming experience.

After Suits wrapped up its last season in 2019, all the legal drama fans were eagerly waiting for a spin-off. So, when its creator and writer Aaron Korsh announced in 2023, that a spin-off based on the hit legal drama titled Suits: L.A. is in development, fans were absolutely thrilled.
The same update was shared with actors Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams in a past interview, while they were filming a Super Bowl commercial. The duo hinted that the fans might be able to see familiar faces in the spinoff.
As there’s a possibility that Rick Hoffman and Sarah Rafferty can reprise their roles in Suits: L.A. On whether they had any advice for the new cast, Macht added:
If they can get their hands on a digital device where that can take dialogue and download it to a little chip and stick it in their head, it might be a lot easier for them to say the words every day.
The spin-off with center around Ted Black, a lawyer whose law firm is facing a major challenge. Thus, setting the stage perfectly of yet another round of high-stakes legal drama.
