Phillip Schofield has announced that his mother, Pat, has died aged 88.

Taking to his Instagram Story tonight, the former This Morning presenter, 62, wrote: ‘Today, at 3pm and after a heartbreaking weekend, my magnificent mum decided it was time to go to her beloved Brian.

‘Over three days, we held her, loved her, hugged her, and said everything that needed to be said.

‘She was calm, peaceful, beautiful and dignified.

‘I will forever be proud and privileged that she was my mum.

‘Our eternal thanks to the paramedics, Treliske A&E and Critical Care team who have been, in the past and this weekend, my mum’s and our angels. Your love and care has been our saviour.’

‘I love you mum, forever,’ he signed off.

Schofield proceeded to share a series of personal photos of his late mother, including from the time she did a wing walk at the age of 80 and other various snaps from her travels.

‘God I loved her for wanting to do this,’ he wrote alongside a clip of the exhilarating activity.

‘One of the oldest ever ladies to wing walk.’

The montage also included a snap of her in front of a sunset and enjoying a show at The Royal Albert Hall.

His final post included the words ‘together forever’ alongside an old shot of Pat with her late husband, Brian.

Schofield’s father died in 2008 from a long-standing heart condition. The star has frequently spoken about the close bond he shared with him.

Opening up on the This Morning sofa about his father’s death, Schofield previously reflected: ‘My dad died in 2008, he’d been poorly for a long time. We knew it was going to happen, but when it finally did happen we heard from the hospital.’

On his time of death, he added: ‘It is this extraordinary physical thing that a person who is near the end of their life who without even knowing maybe, waits until family have left the room and then they go quietly on their own.’

Following his exit from ITV last year, Schofield stayed with his mother at her Cornwall home as he kept a low profile and avoided media attention.

She was also a mother to his younger brother, Timothy, who is currently spending 12 years in prison for sexually abusing a teenage boy.

Pat’s death comes after her hospitalisation last year when she fell seriously ill.

Last June, after admitting to an affair with a much younger male runner, which prompted his departure from showbiz, Schofield cared for his mother and held a vigil by her bedside.

Most recently, the ex-Dancing On Ice host made a divisive comeback to screens as he starred in the Channel 5 programme Cast Away.

In the show, Schofield spent 10 days alone on a small island off the coast of Madagascar in his first television appearance in over 12 months.

During the three-partner, he discussed leaving ITV in May 2023 after lying about his affair, as well as his strained relationships with former colleagues.
