One Piece Chapter 1130: Eiichiro Oda Yet Again Backs Out from Killing a Major Character to Vindicate Shanks

Spoiler Alert !!!
Spoilers for chapter 1130 of One Piece

Eiichiro Oda has never given a clear indication regarding Shanks’ intentions in One Piece. Recently, he destroyed the ship of the Kid Pirates after defeating Eustass Kid himself near Elbaf, and it gave fans the impression that Shanks was headed down a dark path.

However, the spoilers of chapter 1130 have taken the situation back to being ambiguous. While the chapter itself does not explicitly involve either Shanks or Kid Pirates, a small hint goes a long way in this regard.

Chapter 1079 of One Piece followed the battle between Shanks’ crew and the Kid Pirates. After Kid posed a threat to Elbaf (Shanks’ territory), Shanks demanded that he hand over his Poneglyohs. Kid obviously refused the proposal and was about to pose a huge threat by using his Observation Haki. This is exactly when Shanks deemed him an enemy and with a single blow of Divine Departure, he took down the powerful pirate. Dory and Brogy then performed their attack, Hahoku, and destroyed the Victoria Punk. The narration then stated that the Kid Pirates were completely destroyed at Elbaf.

However, the spoilers of chapter 1130 state that Jinbe and the sharks were searching the nearby seas of Elbaf to recover the lost Straw Hat pirates. But they didn’t find anything. If Eustass Kid and his crew were indeed annihilated near Elbaf, then some information on their dead bodies must have surfaced. But there was no such detail in the chapter.

This goes on to indicate that while Eustass Kid was gravely injured and his ship was sunken, the crew must have rescued him and lived somehow. Since the sharks and Jinbe himself found no anomaly in the seas, the Kid Pirates must have found a way to survive.

Shanks has always been an elusive character. He has been on Luffy’s side since day 1 and often appeared during times of grave danger. But is his intention to aid the Straw Hats? Or is he simply using them to reach the Laugh Tale and steal the titular treasure, One Piece, for himself?

After Shanks announced that he was aiming for the One piece and he destroyed the Kid Pirates, fans were finally assured that Shanks is a rival of Luffy. But now that the only proof of the Victoria Punk’s destruction, as well as the death of Kid, is missing, no one is sure anymore.

There have been multiple times when Eiichiro Oda has made characters who were supposedly ‘destroyed’ return in the series and it seems like something similar will happen to Kid and his crew. But if Shanks did not intend on killing Eustass Kid, did he simply want to make a statement? Several questions regarding Shanks’ character have risen again which only Oda will be able to answer in the coming chapters.

The One Piece manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently airing on Crunchyroll.
