For over 25 years, Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has been enthralling fans without a single dull moment. Sadly, One Piece fans will need to endure some disappointing news as Toei recently announced that anime will be going on a 6-month break, starting on October 27, 2024.
The Straw Hat Pirates will be returning by April 2025 and continuing their rescue mission for Vegapunk in the Egghead Island Arc. While the announcement left the OP fandom reeling, Toei Animation delivered an epic episode before the break, showcasing Koby in action and leaving viewers in awe.
The episode featured Koby: Honesty Impact, which left the fans speechless after witnessing his immense destructive powers rivaling Garp. Koby’s recent power boost has fans questioning if Koby possesses Conqueror Haki, given how the Haki power system is becoming increasingly complex without clear direction. Thus, fans are hoping Oda-sensei and WIT Studio will focus on reworking the Haki principle in the One Piece remake, to clarify and streamline the concept.
Why the One Piece Remake Needs a Clearer Direction for the Haki Power System
Amid the six-month hiatus announcement, One Piece‘s recent episode featured Koby: Honesty Impact, which instantly became the highlight of the Marine vs Blackbeard battle. While Monkey D. Garp had his fair share of moments, Koby stole the spotlight with a clutch save and his strongest Honesty Impact yet.
Besides OP‘s compelling plot, the anime’s unique power system makes it stand out from the rest of the Shonen series. One Piece has two main power systems: Devil Fruits and Haki. While devil fruits have been a part of the story since the beginning, Oda-sensei introduced the concept of Haki during the Marineford Arc.

Since then, Oda-sensei has revealed many characters possessing Conqueror Haki, including Luffy and Zoro from the Straw Hats. Interestingly, Koby’s recent power boost has confused many fans, leading them to believe he possesses Conqueror Haki, which isn’t true.

Traditionally, black and red tendrils were assigned to the usage of Conqueror’s Haki in One Piece. Recently, Toei Animation has been prioritizing the enhanced animations that it may have forgotten the key principle of Haki that fans are complaining about.
Given Eiichiro Oda‘s eye for detail, mixing up Haki isn’t a popular option. So, is it just an animation mixup? Regardless, Oda-sensei must avoid repeating past mistakes and carefully handle the principles of Haki in collaboration with WIT Studio for the One Piece remake.
Is Koby the True Protagonist? Fans Question as His Honesty Impact Takes Over the Internet
In episode 1122 of One Piece, Koby uses his Honesty Impact in which he imbues his fist with Armament Haki and delivers a powerful punch. While Luffy has been the face of One Piece for over 25 years, many fans are now questioning him as the main protagonist following the latest episode featuring Koby’s Honesty Impact.
At the beginning of the series. Oda-sensei introduces viewers to Luffy, who sets out on his journey to become the King of the Pirates and meets Koby in the first few episodes. After witnessing Koby’s immense destructive attack, many fans believe Oda was setting the stage for the Navy Hero, not Luffy.
Indeed, Oda-sensei has portrayed Koby on a parallel path with Luffy. While Luffy is rising in the pirate world, Koby is now making a name for himself as a hero of the Navy. Sadly, One Piece fans will need to manage their excitement during the six-month hiatus while eagerly anticipating what’s next.
One Piece is available to stream on Crunchyroll.
