“Kidd deserved this”: Why Most One Piece Fans are Wrong About Shanks’ Villain Theory After Defeating Kid

The character of Red-Haired Shanks in One Piece is laced with controversies that make it very difficult for fans to find out his true intentions. For the longest time, fans have deemed Shanks an antagonist because of his mysterious actions, and a recent confrontation between Shanks and Eustass Kid only made it worse for the Emperor of the Sea.

Ever since Shanks met the Five Elders to discuss a certain pirate, he was tagged with the title of a One Piece villain. Fans started doubting his actions, and recently, when he defeated the Kid Pirates and took their Poneglyph rubbings, these allegations became more solid as they tarnished Shanks’s image in the story.

However, what fans fail to understand is that the way Shanks defeated the Kid Pirates was justified for multiple reasons. Kid and his crew deserved this, and it also helped Shanks maintain his image as one of the strongest Emperors of the Sea in One Piece.

The Insulting Defeat of Eustass Kid in One Piece

When the Wano arc ended, Eustass Kid revealed to Luffy and Law that he was going after the man with the burned scar as he had the last poneglyph. Later on, when he next made his appearance in the One Piece storyline, he was seen sailing near Elbaf, where he came across the grand fleet of Red-Haired Pirates. Kid instantly decided to launch an attack on them because of their past.

Initially, Kid was able to destroy almost every member of the Red-Haired fleet. There was no one in the entire fleet who could stand up against him. However, when Shanks heard about this, he decided to take matters into his own hand and deal with Kid on his own. He first asked his crewmate to warn Kid before he launched an all-out attack on him and his crew.

When Kid refused to comply with Shanks’ proposition, he was left with no choice but to show him why he is the strongest Emperor of the Sea in One Piece. Shanks destroyed both Kid and Killer with a single attack, and his crew was forced to hand over the Poneglyph rubbings. Not only that, Dory and Broggy also destroyed his entire ship, putting an end to Kid’s Pirates journey in One Piece.

Shanks’ Actions Was Justified

After Shanks’ and Kid’s confrontation, fans who believed Shanks to be a villain got another reason to blame him. According to the majority of them, Shanks didn’t have to be so ruthless while dealing with Kid, and he could have easily let him leave after taking the Poneglyph rubbings.

However, what fans fail to realize is that Kid was actually a psychopathic killer who was brutal and merciless. He didn’t care about other people’s lives and wouldn’t even think about civilian casualties.

In fact, the sole reason behind his bounty being higher than Luffy’s was that he would kill anyone and everyone who stood in the way of his dream to become Pirate King.

Further, Shanks’ actions were justified by the fact that it was Kid who started the battle by attacking his fleet. Shanks already knew that Kid was sailing near the Elbaf village, but he didn’t care until Kid launched an attack on his fleet. Shanks would have let him go easily, but Kid chose violence and forced Shanks to save his status as the Emperor of the Sea in One Piece.
