It’s Confirmed: Avengers Doomsday and Secret Wars Won’t Repeat What Russo Brothers Did With Infinity War and Endgame

Millions of fans had to wait for a year before they were introduced to Avengers: Endgame. Although the death of Tony Stark was enough to make people cry, Joe and Anthony Russo have revealed that Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will not go down the same path.

Avengers: Doomsday & Avengers: Secret Wars Will Be Shot Differently

For those unversed, many films are not shot linearly at all. Some projects (like How I Met Your Mother) were shot non-linearly for various reasons. If it’s a long project, you don’t want the characters to age so you shoot the ending first.

For Joe and Anthony Russo, that was never a problem in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The directors had shot Avengers: Infinity War first and then started their work on Avengers: Endgame.

However, a recent tweet on social media X, states that the same treatment won’t be given to Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The films will not be shot back-to-back.

Although their release dates are a year apart from each other, this brings some hope for fans who want to relive the MCU’s glory days again. There are some theories that Avengers: Doomsday will lead to The Battleworld in the MCU.

This Battleworld arc will eventually lead to Avengers: Secret Wars however no claims can be confirmed as of now. The world loves the Russo brothers and for what they did for the MCU. However, there was a time when it was rumored that they might not just return!

In an interview with GamesRadar+, the Russo brothers sat down for a chat, and during their talks, Joe Russo had some formidable words to say. From the talks of it, it seemed that the Russo brothers might not just return to the MCU.

The intention is that we want to build our own Star Wars. For us, it’s all about the focus on original storytelling and new ideas. If anything, there’s been too much. I mean, I think you could argue we’re in a rut of repetitive storytelling and potential franchise abuse.

He continued,

So, at a certain point, I think the audience is craving new ideas and new stories. And that’s where all of our focus is going post-Marvel – asking ‘what are those new stories?

However, the brothers were soon announced to be back in the MCU to direct some projects for the cinematic universe. As far as the world is concerned, the Russo brothers are back and the MCU could shine again.

Avengers: Doomsday is currently set for a release date of 1 May 2026 while Avengers: Secret Wars is set for a release date of 7 May 2027 in theaters across the U.S.
