Tom Holland appeared on Jay Shetty Podcast via YouTube and candidly discussed his life and work, including mental health struggles. One of the most profound topics during their conversation was his alcohol addiction.
The 28-year-old English star talked about the first time he realized he was becoming dependent on liquor. “I’m happy to say it — I was definitely addicted to alcohol. I’m not shying away from that at all,” the actor confessed. As a British, he admitted to being able to drink a lot, especially during December.
He wanted to abstain from alcohol in January, but he found himself craving for more. “I was waking up thinking about it. I was checking the clock when’s it 12. It just really scared me,” he admitted, finally realizing he might have an alcohol addiction. He pledged to stay away from it for the next few months but only found himself struggling. Eventually, it took a toll on his mental health.
Holland shared how he could not be social with people anymore and go to a pub or grab some dinner. He continued fighting for sobriety and extended his no-drinking plan to six months until it reached his birthday. Finally, his efforts were not in vain – he was able to overcome his addiction and regain good mental health. “I had such better mental clarity. I felt healthier,” he recalled.
After his duel with excessive alcohol consumption, Holland has decided to launch his own line of non-alcoholic beer called Bero this October 16. Of course, there are people who criticized his decision, but the actor’s goal is to help others embrace the alcohol-free movement.
