Home Depot confirms it has rolled out new payment method option after being bombarded with pleas from shoppers

HOME Depot has confirmed a popular payment method can now be used to buy goods in the chain’s stores.

Bosses made the change after being inundated with pleas online.

Home Depot had come under fire from those who wanted to pay for items via Apple Pay.

Furious shoppers had urged the chain to adapt and move into the 21st century.

The company had consistently told shoppers it was evaluating its payment methods but has now made a change.

“We have rolled out contactless, including Apple Pay, as a payment option at all U.S. stores,” a spokesperson told The U.S. Sun.

Rumors on whether the chain was about to roll out Apple Pay had been swirling for weeks.

The company admitted it understood customers’ frustration over the payment method issue.

But, a spokesperson warned that no decision had been made.

They previously told customers to continue using traditional payment method options.

The payment method policy change means shoppers can pay for goods using the card stored in their Apple wallets.

Customers will no longer be red-faced if they accidentally leave their debit or credit cards at home.

Home Depot is not the only retailer that has recently rolled out forms of contactless payment.

Grocery chain H-E-B has started rolling out Apple and Google Pay across its stores.

But bosses have warned that the rollout will take time.

Shoppers will be able to use tap-to-pay services at the checkout and in pharmacies, but not at fuel pumps.

Apple Pay has not been rolled out at Walmart supermarkets or Sam’s Club warehouses.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon has said he prefers customers to use the chain’s in-store app rather than Apple Pay.

But the stance has irked some shoppers – with some threatening to boycott the supermarket chain.

Instead of using Apple Pay, shoppers can pay for items via the Walmart Pay service.

They can pay for products using a QR code that is on the app.

McMillon told Stratechery why the supermarket chain was not yet rolling out Apple Pay.

“I think in our case, we would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time,” he said.

But the chief didn’t appear to rule out potentially rolling out Apple Pay in the future.

“Those conversations are ongoing,” McMillon said.

Why doesn’t Walmart offer Apple Pay?

CEO of Walmart Doug McMillon has revealed why stores don’t offer Apple Pay on Stratechery with Ben Thompson.

Though using Apple Pay at the retailer has been an ongoing conversation, McMillon emphasized that “We would like to have the customers open our app in the store all the time.”

The app can be used to help find items in the store, but it can also be used to pay for your purchases.

“That’s one of the things that we would like people to use our app for,” he said.
