With the way Warner Bros. Games has been pushing for Hogwarts Legacy to become its primary cash cow, it’s clear that we’ll continue to witness a massive expansion of the Wizarding World in gaming, all while hopefully keeping the magic that people experienced with the first game alive all the way through.
Before any of us can get our hands on a sequel to the first game, however, it seems that what we’ll be getting is an expansion along with the already confirmed definitive edition of the game. But is this really what fans want from Hogwarts Legacy? Will more side quests and activities fill the void for those craving a true Hogwarts experience?
An Expansion to the First Hogwarts Legacy Isn’t What the Fans Desire, It Seems
Given the game’s overall quality, it comes as no surprise that people who experienced Hogwarts Legacy firsthand were simply left clamoring for more. But, given the game’s structure, it also left a lot to be desired for fans of the larger Harry Potter universe.
After all, what people truly desire from a game set in Hogwarts is an immersive experience that allows them to feel like real students—starting from year one, attending classes, making friends, learning spells, forming rivalries, fully engaging in the daily life of the school, and all that good stuff.
What’s on the horizon for now, however, isn’t quite that. As all the leaks surrounding the franchise would have you believe, it appears that Warner Bros. is working on an expansion of the base game at the moment, one that will introduce new story content, side quests, activities, and outfits.

This expansion will come packaged with the Definitive Edition of Hogwarts Legacy, the one folks at Rocksteady are also giving a hand in developing. For those that already own the base game, though, you will most likely be able to purchase the DLC separately for $20-$30.
It’s not entirely the full Hogwarts experience everyone’s been hoping for, is it? While this expansion may tide you over, it’s clear the real magic won’t come until Hogwarts Legacy 2 finally arrives—and that’s if the sequel does actually build on its predecessor the way people wish to see it develop.
Now sure, thinking about things a bit positively, what we’re getting isn’t a bad deal—it just isn’t what you’ve been dreaming of. The expansion, after all, will probably offer more of what the first game already does well: immersive gameplay, detailed environments, and exciting combat.
But it’s also difficult to deny that it’s the big stuff fans are still holding out for—and until those bigger ideas come to life in a sequel, this expansion might feel like just a small taste of what could have been.
What Other Things Do People Hope to See in Hogwarts Legacy’s Confirmed Sequel?
Beyond what the expansion will bring to the table, most within the community already have a clear list of features they’d love to see in a sequel. First, as we’ve mentioned already, is to see a fully realized Hogwarts experience that lets you play through all seven years of magical education.
But going beyond that, many also hope to see the implementation of more engaging elements like a morality system that reflects your choices in the game in a way that the first game simply missed, making each decision matter in the grander scheme of the story.
Alongside that, another important bit would be a more dynamic House Points system that would further enhance the feeling of being part of the school, offering consequences for actions like breaking curfew or earning detention.
For the grander plans, there’s a huge desire to see classic Harry Potter experiences like being able to play Quidditch throughout the school years or even a fully fleshed-out Triwizard Tournament for the final year. But that’s just wishful thinking for now.
All of this is to simply say that Avalanche Software has already created something unique and with infinite potential in Hogwarts Legacy. Now, all they need to do is quickly move on from the first game and build on that foundation in meaningful ways to give folks the immersive, student-centered experience they’ve been dreaming of.
