Girlfriend of Brit influencer who died in 160ft plunge from Spain’s highest bridge says his death is a ‘nightmare’

THE heartbroken girlfriend of a British influencer who died after climbing up one of Spain’s highest bridges has described his death as a “nightmare”.

Lewis Stevenson, 26, plunged over 160ft after scaling up the Castilla La Mancha bridge so he could reportedly get a picture for his social media with tributes pouring in for the daredevil climber.

His heartbroken girlfriend Savannah Parker described her boyfriend’s death as “a nightmare” after the tragedy on Sunday.

She wrote on her Instagram: “It’s 5am and I haven’t eaten or slept. Someone tell me this is a nightmare.

“I feel violently sick at the fact you’re not coming back. Please come back. Answer the phone.”

Another friend and fellow climber left a touching tribute saying: “Knowing you has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.

“And losing you is the greatest sadness of my life.

“No amount of words on a stupid Instagram post will ever describe how much I miss you.

“You will always be the bravest, most caring and funny person I’ve ever known. I’m proud of every building, every rooftop, every moment of our time together.

“My best friend, my brother. Rest easy, we’ll meet again one day.”

Authorities in Spain said Stevenson was climbing up the 630ft bridge with a 24-year-old friend at around 7.15am on Sunday morning.

Cops said the pal was left traumatised and in a state of shock for some time after the fatal plunge.

The bridge stands over the Tagus River, 90 minutes southwest of Madrid.

Footage from the scene of the tragedy showed police cordoning off the area near to where he fell.

National Police as well as local town-hall employed firefighters rushed to the scene with paramedics but there was nothing they could to save the Brit.

Stevenson was known for his ambitious climbs with snaps on his social media showing him standing hundreds of feet in the air on top of famous landmarks.

He has scaled to the top of a New York skyscraper, overlooked London on top of a metal beam and even looked over a forest in Croatia.

Stevenson’s grandfather Clifford, 70, revealed that the stunts had always scared the family.

He told MailOnline: “We all tried to talk him out of it. We were always trying to talk him out of doing things but that was the way he was.

“He loved doing it, always went out there believing he’d be alright. He did what he did for his own pleasure.

“He did not get any money for it, he was an adventurer.”

Local councillor Macarena Munoz confirmed the tragedy last weekend and said climbing the bridge was “totally banned”.

She said: “We have made it clear on several occasions that it’s not something that can be done in any circumstances.”

Investigators are now set to look into the possibility bad weather may have played a part into the fall as rained heavily the night before the tragedy.
