Even America’s Sweetheart Sandra Bullock Was Helpless Against Harvey Weinstein at the Peak of His Power: ‘I was afraid of him’

Unlike her fellow Hollywood colleagues Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie, and Gwyneth Paltrow—Sandra Bullock admitted to having never received any unwanted attention from Harvey Weinstein. That’s perhaps because Bullock has a history of asking producers to fire her from films after being subjected to unwanted advances.

Meanwhile, although Sandra Bullock thankfully never faced any uncomfortable advances from Harvey Weinstein, that doesn’t mean she wasn’t scared of the disgraced producer. During an interview, Bullock opened up about how she never had the opportunity to collaborate with Weinstein, and she liked it that way due to her helplessness against a powerful man like him.

Sandra Bullock Was Helpless and Scared of Harvey Weinstein

During her initial years in Hollywood, when Sandra Bullock was a newcomer, while Harvey Weinstein was already ruling in the film and television landscape, the actress noted finding the disgraced producer scary. Although she never had the first-hand opportunity to work with him, Bullock told London’s Sunday Times, how she often felt helpless and afraid of Weinstein.

I heard about Harvey and I was afraid of him. I wasn’t asked to be in that world. I learned early on to shut things off so those things didn’t come my way.

Discussing how she had her own ways of shutting down uncomfortable advances, the brunette beauty Sandra Bullock revealed inside details from the entertainment industry. Stating how women often slammed their competitors by saying that they might have slept with Harvey Weinstein to land a particular role, Bullock admitted to finding those gossips hurtful.

I only heard what Harvey wanted people to hear, and that made me so f***ing angry. People would say, “Well, you know how she got that role? She f***ed Harvey.” I would say, “Shut the f*** up. You don’t know that…

Then, later, to find out that woman was brutally attacked … They didn’t sleep with Harvey. Harvey wanted you to think that

Addressing how Harvey Weinstein possibly spread rumors about women sleeping with him to land roles, Sandra Bullock highlighted how those were later revealed to be fake, and instead, they were cover-ups of his s*xual assaults against actresses and newcomers.

Sandra Bullock Faced Her Share of Unwanted Advances in the Industry

Moving on with the conversation, Sandra Bullock reflected on her own harrowing experiences in the industry. Although she never faced Harvey Weinstein, Bullock reflected on encountering the likes of him, during her initial years. The actress thus revealed learning her “lesson” after finding herself in a “situation” that left her feeling uncomfortable.

Without naming the movie or the person behind the unwanted advances, Sandra Bullock noted that she had faced an uncomfortable encounter on a set, early on in her career. Surprisingly, in order to deal with the situation, Bullock had apparently asked the producers to fire her from the project.

Very early on in my career, I had a situation on a film, which was hard. It came from a person of authority. I kept deflecting it with humour and it didn’t work. Finally, I said, “Please, just fire me,”

It was a lesson. After that, I tended to remove anything that could be misconstrued as s*xual. I locked it down. That’s how I’ve always navigated tricky situations. That’s how I’ve survived.

Learning her lessons pretty early in her career, Sandra Bullock noted that now she no longer does anything that could be seen as s*xual in her work. Meanwhile, having personally experienced unwanted advances in her career and standing up against them, Bullock claimed to be impressed by the “brave people” who came out and accused Harvey Weinstein.

I was like, ‘Oh my God, this is amazing, but f*ck, f*ck, f*ck, what if it doesn’t work? Please God, let it not swing the other way.’ We’re in such uncharted territory right now. I’ve seen a lot of fear and a lot of men of a certain generation not understanding.

So it seems that despite initially feeling terrorized by Harvey Weinstein’s power in the industry and withstanding unwanted advances in her career, Sandra Bullock has found her power and confidence in herself to stand against such predators. Now that the tables have turned, Bullock claimed to have witnessed “a tremendous amount of fear” from the men on the set of her latest films.
