Drivers can avoid paying traffic tickets and cancel out fine with heart-warming purchase but there’s a tight deadline

A HEART-WARMING donation in time for the holiday season can allow drivers to avoid paying a traffic ticket or cancel it.

The Las Vegas Parking Services Office is behind the generous gesture that can benefit low-income families with gifts from driving offenders.

Drivers who are issued tickets between October 1 and November 15 may qualify for the program.

The way the program works is offenders bring new, unwrapped toys or games of equal or greater value to their fine to the Parking Services Office.

However, the donation must be made within 30 days of the caution date.

Drivers are also required to present their receipts to verify the value of the gift.

Another option for people looking to take advantage of the program is purchasing the gifts online and having them delivered to the Parking Services Office with their citation number in the notes section of the delivery.

The program organizers ask drivers to donate family-friendly, multi-player games, preferably, so that kids of all ages are included.

Some games the city suggests include Candyland, Monopoly, Connect 4, Jenga, UNO, Operation, and Sorry.

Gift Cards are also an acceptable donation.

Not all parking offenses may qualify for the program.

Some parking fines that qualify include:

  • Overtime meter
  • Restricted time zone
  • Abandoned vehicle
  • Commercial vehicle/tour buses only
  • Bus or taxi zone
  • Loading/unloading zone
  • Registration not displayed
  • Parked after park hours
  • Taking two spaces
  • Vehicle parked for more than 72 hours

Drivers can call 702-229-4700 to see if their parking summons qualifies for the program.

The toys will be donated to Chicanos Por La Causa, a non-profit corporation that assists homeless families in obtaining permanent housing.

Las Vegas officials have run similar donation programs in previous years.

In 2022, the city launched Toys For Tickets to encourage offenders to participate in the program that benefits children and families.
