US Army unveils ‘battlefield of the future’ with Mad Max-style vehicles, attack drones & jammers in new era of warfare

THE US Army is testing cutting-edge technology as it aims to be the driving force behind a new era of electronic warfare on future battlefields.

The pristine attack and defense weaponry are being experimented with in the deep woods of the Fort Johnson base in Vernon Parish, Louisiana. by the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, which specializes in air assault operations.

The 101st Airborne is exploring new ways the technology can be used on the battlefield, including surveillance and attack drones, decoy, and remotely-operated electronic jammers that operate from a laptop or cell phone.

Some of the innovations were influenced by the raging war overseas between Russia and Ukraine.

“We’re [here] to create those tactics, we’re [here] to create those standard operating procedures so that the next generation of soldiers understands from our mistakes and can be even more effective with the systems,” Sergeant First Class Anthony Clark told CBS News.

Clark admitted that a lot of the methods being executed were experimental and are a work in progress.

And the Army’s new vehicles are being described as something out of Mad Max.

“Even in World War II, they were using brand new equipment, brand new methods, and they were extremely successful, and they learned from their mistakes,” Clark added.

The command post is experimenting with new defense systems that will allow the soldiers to detect intruders attempting to infiltrate the base from several feet away.

The base runs fiber-optic cables to antennas hundreds of yards away from the command center, according to CBS News.

To mislead potential enemies, they spread decoys and off-the-shelf circuit boards that are made to look like laptops and cell phones.

“Just the other night, the enemy was completely deceived by that and put an artillery barrage on just a bunch of decoys that were out in a field, and then this command post stayed safe and sound,” Major General Brett Sylvia said.

The security system allowed the command post to remain safe.

The base is experimenting with robotic vehicles controlled by nearby soldiers to add to its arsenal of defense weaponry.

“There’s no reason to trade blood for blood when we can trade blood for steel,” Lieutenant Parker Mitchell, who is operating the robotic vehicles, told the outlet.

Mitchell described the command center’s efforts as the future of warfare.

“I mean, it gives me chills thinking about it right now,” added Specialist William Bateman.

“We’re in the middle of molding the future and participating in history being made.

“It’s absolutely stunning.”

The large-scale operation comes after the US Army sped up the Next Generation Squad Weapon rifle distribution in late September, according to the Army Times.

The program will include replacing the army’s current 5.56mm M4 and Squad Automatic Weapon with a new 6.8mm rifle and automatic rifle.

The 101st Airborne Division will be one of three battalions, including the 1st Brigade and the 506th Infantry Regiment, to receive the packages in the coming months.

What is electronic warfare?

Electronic warfare is a military and intelligence activity that uses electromagnetic energy to control the electromagnetic spectrum and attack enemies, according to Lockheed Martin.

The defense and attack method can allow the military to detect, deceive, delay, and disrupt enemy radar while protecting fellow troops and command posts.

Electronic warfare uses radio, infrared, and radar signals to sense, protect, and communicate with allies.

Huge sports star could quit BBC and move to US after ‘lack of support’

ALEX Scott’s BBC future is in jeopardy over a perceived “lack of support” surrounding Football Focus.

The star was said to be “deeply hurt” by the Corporation’s handling of the situation after she was blamed for falling viewing figures – prompting the star to make a complaint to bosses last year, The Sun can reveal.

The ex-England footballer, 40, is now “considering other offers” – including a possible move to America – as her contract comes up for renewal next year.

Meanwhile, last night a BBC press release confirmed Rochelle Humes and Vernon Kay were taking over from Alex and Jason Manford..

A source said: “Alex has never been happier than she is right now, she’s just turned 40 and embracing a new chapter in her life, and the decision to part ways from Children In Need – an event she is hugely proud to have been a part of – was entirely mutual.

“She wants to concentrate on her ambassadorships with UNICEF and Refuge right now, and is also contemplating a move to America with her girlfriend, Jess [Glynne].

“There are no guarantees she will be with the BBC next summer – her contract is up for renewal and she is in talks for a raft of other exciting projects.

“Football Focus turns 50 this year and Alex is now seriously contemplating moving on from the show.

“Last year she was hugely hurt by unfair criticism about falling viewing figures – and felt she was thrown under a bus. The viewing figures were not as reported and she feels no-one backed her up and issued the correct viewing figures.

“The viewing figures are actually super healthy, and Alex raised her concerns as she has been in this business long enough now to stand up for herself.”

Rochelle will be joined by Vernon in next month’s CIN line-up, alongside Ade Adepitan, Mel Giedroyc, Chris Ramsey and Lenny Rush.

Last year it was reported that Football Focus had lost a third of its audience in the space of four years.

Dan Walker, who previously fronted it, tweeted that it was “hard to see” the show struggling.

Former Arsenal defender Alex hit back, replying sardonically: “Interesting.”

She then put out another message to the critics of the show, posting the show’s Sports Journalist Association award from 2022.

She wrote: “We have big interviews with Ange Postecoglou and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard coming up on the ‘Award’ winning Football Focus tomorrow.

“Make that a headline.”

Last night a spokeswoman for Alex declined to comment.

When Aspinall, 31, stepped up to the oche, he needed just 40, but frustration crept in when he missed his first two darts.

His first landed just below the double 20 before he then missed the double ten.

This sparked a furious reaction from Aspinall as he forcibly threw his final dart at the board.

The dart bounced off, and Aspinall could be heard apologising for his angry moment.

He went on to lose the match against Razma as he did not win another leg.

The clash ended in a 6-4 win to the Latvian who is 35 rankings behind the world No.8.

But it was Aspinall’s moment of rage that got fans talking on social media.

One posted: “Nathan Aspinall just lost his head massively there oh my god.”

New feature that drivers ‘waited years for’ helps you avoid speeding tickets but it’s had a glitchy rollout

DRIVERS have celebrated the release of a highly anticipated navigational feature, but not everyone is pleased with its shaky rollout.

Google unveiled a free, helpful tool that could save drivers from getting pulled over for speeding.

On Google Maps, a speedometer tool now displays the speed limit and the speed of a driver’s car, but some drivers said it disappears after one minute[/caption]

In a recent software update, the massive tech brand added incident reporting and a speedometer to Google Maps – two features that have long been available on competitor Waze.

Incident reporting allows drivers to tell other users whether they’re stuck behind an accident or caught in a police speed trap.

And a speedometer has been displayed beside the road’s speed limit so drivers can properly monitor whether they’re following the rules of the road.

However, despite taking years to release it, Google apparently still hasn’t figured out the speedometer feature.

Drivers have reported that the speedometer suddenly disappears from their screens about one minute after they start using the app.

One user said in a Reddit thread that the feature, at first, worked for multiple trips, but now he can’t get it to stay on his screen.

Another said, “As soon as I touch the screen to do anything else such as switch apps or pull down for notification, the speedometer disappears until I force restart the app.”

“It’s really annoying.”

A third driver noted his speedometer would disappear if he got a notification during his journey.

“It doesn’t come back when the notification goes,” he wrote on the online Google Maps Help board.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to Google to see if they are working on solutions for the issue.

For now, users can either restart the app to get the speedometer back or use another navigation tool like Waze or Apple Maps.

GOOGLE MAPS UPDATES

Google has introduced a new Destination Guidance system to enhance its maps software.

One feature of the change is a parking function highlighting multi-story parking garages and free-to-park spaces in towns.

Vacant spaces will have a large P icon hovering above it, so drivers can easily cruise over and claim their spot.

Google Maps can also give out more specific walking guidance under the new system.

How to fight a speeding ticket

According to a legally reviewed post, there are five effective strategies to fighting a speeding ticket if it was wrongfully issued.

  1. If pulled over and issued a ticket, drivers can argue or dispute a driver’s personal opinion. When issuing a speeding ticket, an officer is required to write their opinion and come to an “objective” conclusion. If the ticket was written based on that judgment, it can be contested. An example would be if you were going 75 mph in a 65 mph zone because others were traveling at the same speed, you could argue that it would be more dangerous to travel at 65 mph.
  2. You can dispute the officer’s presentation of evidence. If you were ticketed for something like running a stop sign or making an illegal u-turn, you can’t contest that if an officer saw you, but you can call things into court like eyewitnesses, diagrams, or photos.
  3. Argue that the ticket was issued by a “mistake of fact.” This is tricky, but a “mistake of fact” is a mistake made by a driver about a situation that was beyond their control, or if a driver legitimately did not know they were violating the law. For example, you were driving in two lanes because the lane markers were so worn down that you could not see them.
  4. You could say circumstances justified your driving. You could say you were speeding to pass a possibly drunk driver, or avoiding an accident by rapidly changing lanes. However, the argument won’t work if there’s proof you continued to speed after passing.
  5. Similar to the above, it could be argued that speeding was necessary to avoid harm. The key is to argue that if you weren’t speeding, you or someone else could have been harmed.
  6. Consult a traffic attorney, if all else fails. Many have free consultations to decide whether or not there’s a case.

The app will navigate users directly to the door of their location instead of leaving them as soon as they park.

These features are available on Android and iOS devices and will be automatically installed on in-car systems like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The U.S. Sun exclusively reported on an EV charging issue that can lead to cop station visits.

However, Google Maps could easily prevent an arrest.

WNBA forced into major 2025 season change because of Caitlin Clark which includes more games and playoff restructure

THE WNBA revealed a massive move regarding its regular season and playoff format.

The new changes were recently announced by the women’s basketball league.

The WNBA has received record attendance viewership numbers in the 2024 season in large part due to the league’s surge in rookie talent which includes the 2024 NCAA all-time leading scorer Caitlin Clark.

Last Friday, the league made three big announcements.

With the WNBA continuing to grow, the league will add four games in the regular season, going from 40 to 44 total contests.

That means the season will continue deeper in October.

The WNBA Finals is currently taking place with the New York Liberty and Minnesota Lynx squaring off against each other.

Another change will be coming to the first round of the postseason.

Beginning next year, there will be a 1-1-1 first-round format.

And the WNBA Finals is set to be a best-of-7- format in 2026.

The last change will be adding an expansion team in the Golden State Valkyries for next year.

It has been previously announced that the WNBA will add Toronto and Portland franchises for the 2026 season.

The availability of charter flights and the popularity of the WNBA have helped fuel these new additions, per WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert.

“Honestly, the league’s growth and increased demand for WNBA basketball made this the ideal time to expand the schedule, lengthen the Finals, and provide more opportunities to see the best players in the world compete at the highest level,” Engelbert said last week.

The WNBA’s new $2.2 billion TV deals, part of a set of agreements with the NBA, won’t begin until 2026.

Next year, the league will be having the first of the new deals with ESPN, NBC Sports, and Amazon.

The WNBA Finals change in 2025 means the championship round will be in line with professional sports leagues such as the NBA Finals, MLB World Series, and NHL Stanley Cup.

And the change for the first change was made after Clark and the Indiana Fever never got to play at home.

The team that hosts Game 1 will now not host Game 2 with the series moving to a different arena.

The WNBA saw Clark win the Rookie of the Year award and lead her team to the playoffs.

The Iowa Hawkeyes product and her team were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, however.

Exact date on front of your nickel to make it worth $138,000 – but the rare error that makes it even more valuable

COIN collectors should check their change now – as they could become $138,000 richer if the item has a rare error.

The 1916 Doubled Die Obverse Nickel stands out for a variety of reasons, including its bold detailing and unique historical significance.

HA.com
The coin fetched $138,000 at auction in August 2022[/caption]

What makes this 1916 nickel special is the prominent “doubled die” effect on the obverse (front) side, specifically visible on the date, according to Heritage Auctions.

The doubling, where the date appears twice in a slightly offset manner, is the coin’s defining feature.

This detail, often referred to as a “1916/16” due to the striking of the number “16” twice, was a rare minting error that went unnoticed for over 50 years, the auctioneer site shared.

Its scarcity and the difficulty of spotting it, especially after the coin entered circulation, make it incredibly valuable.

So much so that it sold for a record $138,000 at auction in August 2022.

COINING IT

Finding valuable coins could be as easy as checking your spare change.

This means inspecting your coins for rare pennies, nickels, dimes, and others as many of them could sell for thousands.

The most valuable coins are ones with a low mintage or an error, as collectors find those coins are some of the rarest.

The eBay site is a great resource to check if your coins are worth anything.

Just need to search the full coin name, select the sold listing, and then toggle the search to highest value.

It may also be helpful to get your coin graded by a third-party service.

This will likely reassure any coin collector that yours is legitimate which can add tons of cash to the price.

GRADE UP

Coin grading may seem complex, but understanding the basics can help you make better decisions when buying or selling coins.

Coins are assessed on a 70-point scale, where 1 represents the lowest condition and 70 signifies a perfect mint state.

The grading system uses terms like “Good,” which scores a low 4, and “Fine,” rated at 12.

However, grading considers more than just wear; factors such as luster, strike quality, and coloration can greatly impact a coin’s value.

As a result, two coins with similar wear may receive different grades based on these aspects.

Authenticity is vital, ensuring the coin has not been altered.

How coins are graded

Coins are graded on a scale of one to 70, with one being the poorest grade, and 70 being the most pristine example.

Numbers 60 to 70 are generally the most sought-after by collectors and are known as Mint State coins.

Pieces that fetch thousands at auction are commonly found in MS67, MS68, and MS69 conditions.

An MS-70 is near-impossible to find among older coins.

Reputable third-party grading services, like the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), provide expert evaluations, assign grades, and encapsulate coins in protective holders.

Utilizing these services enhances a coin’s credibility and marketability.

Coin grades range from Poor (1) to Mint State (60-70).

For example, a “Good” coin shows basic outlines of the design, while an “Extremely Fine” coin retains sharp details with minimal wear.

Mint State coins may display minor handling flaws but show no signs of circulation wear.

Moreover, grading services can identify proof coins, which are specially produced and graded differently than regular coins.

Francis Ngannou to fight for ‘lineal’ MMA heavyweight title in return against Renan Ferreira with all-new belt on line

MMA star Renan Ferreira says he is fighting Francis Ngannou to determine the true and “lineal” heavyweight champion of the world.

Ngannou walked out on the UFC in 2022 without losing the title to pursue a switch to boxing.

Now, he returns to the cage on Saturday against 6ft 8in Brazilian Ferreira in his Professional Fighters League debut.

The PFL have unveiled an all-new heavyweight belt to be at stake between the two in Saudi Arabia.

But as Ngannou never lost his UFC gold in the octagon, Ferreira believes the title for world’s best MMA heavyweight is also up for grabs.

He said: “Obviously, he didn’t lose his title so it means a lot to have this victory.

“It was great to see the belt and I actually got to hold the belt today. The PFL did a great job in making an incredible belt.

“I got to hold it today and to already feel that it will be mine.”

Ngannou, 38, defeated Ciryl Gane, 34, in his last UFC fight in 2022 and was later stripped of the belt after his contract expired.

American great Jon Jones, 37, inherited it in his absence as Ngannou went onto suffer losses to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua in boxing.

Now he comes back to the cage, the question still remains who is the best MMA heavyweight in the world.

But Ngannou has refused to be drawn into the debate as he heads into his first bout in the cage for over two years.

He told SunSport when probed on lineal status: “Honestly, I haven’t thought about it. I don’t think about that.

“I’m focused on one thing, which is the fight, the guy in front of me. I think I have my personal fight to fight to be focused about stuff like that.”
