Liam was staying at Hotel CasaSur in the neighbourhood of Palermo and crowds of fans have flocked outside to pay their respects.

The pop star has a huge fan base after shooting to fame as part of One Direction on The X Factor in 2010, and later embarked on his solo career in 2017.

Liam has had a number of huge hits over the years, and he released his last solo single seven months ago Teardrops.

The chorus lyrics say: “Teardrops are falling down your face again, ’cause I don’t know how to love you when I am broken too.

“Maybe your words make sense, I could be the problem, I’m so sorry.

“I know we could just be friends, but I don’t know when we come down from this softly.”

Sharing the news on Instagram, he admitted that the song was “born from many tears”.

Liam said: “Teardrops is out now.

“This song is born from many tears, not all mine.

“I hope you love it like I do and not too many of you can relate.”

The tune placed at number 44 on the UK charts.

Speaking about the tune in a press release, Liam added: “Teardrops is about the vulnerability of heartbreak and the challenge of overcoming those moments,

“This song marks the start of a new beginning.

“There’s lots more to come in 2024.”

Liam had a number of relationships in the spotlight, with his most recent with Kate Cassidy. The pair started dating in 2022.

The singer also dated Maya Henry between 2018 and 2022.

Liam and ex Cheryl, who were together between 2015 and 2018, share a son called Bear, seven.

Liam’s death was confirmed yesterday afternoon.

His cause of death has since been released and he died instantly from multiple injuries including a fractured skull caused by his fall from a third floor hotel balcony.

Pablo Policicchio, the spokesperson for the security ministry of Buenos Aires, said police were called to the hotel by a worker about an “aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol“.

Witnesses at the hotel said Liam smashed his laptop and had to be carried back to his room in the erratic incident earlier in the day, TMZ reported.

Cops found Liam dead in the hotel’s inner courtyard at around 5pm local time (9pm UK time) when they arrived.

A red tent was put up over the body as cops began the investigation into the tragic death.

The spokesperson for the local ambulance service said Liam’s death had been confirmed on the spot after he had fallen and suffered severe injuries.

Alberto Crescenti told local media: “The alarm was raised at 5.04pm local time saying a person was lying in an internal patio at Casa Sur.

“At 5.11pm an ambulance arrived and the man was certified dead.

“There was no possibility of resuscitating him.”

Two ‘forgotten’ Covid symptoms ‘you might miss’ as new XEC strain as cases surge in the UK

AS Covid cases rise in the UK, people have started to catch a new variant known as XEC.

The new strain was first identified in Germany in June and has since emerged in the UK, as well as other countries like the US and Denmark.

Covid symptoms have remained the same, with a cough and high temperature among the signs to look out for

Like many of the variants before it, XEC is part of the Omicron family – the strain that became dominant globally in 2021.

Early evidence has indicated it can be transmitted more easily, but health experts have assured the public that it’s very similar to previous variants and available vaccines work against it.

According to Clinical Pharmacist Kiran Jones at Oxford Online Pharmacy, symptoms remain the same as previous strains.

These include: high temperature, a cough, a sore throat, muscle pain/aches, a headache, nausea or vomiting and diarrhoea.

But Mr Jones said there are two symptoms infected people are likely to miss.

“People could be likely to miss a loss of taste or smell,” he said.

“Similarly to the other variants, these symptoms could be very mild initially and not become severe until the disease progresses.

“This means it could be a few days until people realise they’re struggling to taste or smell anything.”

Loss of taste or smell can begin four to five days after other symptoms, according to the expert, and last around seven to 14 days.

He added: “But some people may experience these for longer periods, with some studies finding them to last as long as one and a half years.”

The new strain is thought to be highly contagious because it has multiple mutations.

There currently isn’t enough evidence to suggest recovery is longer than other Covid variants.

People who catch the new strain should start to feel better within a few weeks of the onset of symptoms.

Can current Covid tests detect XEC?

The Covid tests you can currently buy should be able to detect the new strain, said Mr Jones.

These are available from the high street and online chemists.

But alternatively, people should consider getting the autumn vaccine if it is offered to them via the NHS.

Mr Jones said: “This includes care home residents for older adults, all adults aged 65 and over, anyone considered high-risk (six months to 65 years old) and frontline workers.

“For those not in these groups, you can buy the Pfizer vaccine at most high street and private clinics.”

Should we be worried about cases rising?

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has recently released figures to suggest hospital admissions for Covid have risen in recent weeks.

But Mr Jones said this is relatively normal at this time of year due to the changes in weather and the rise in seasonal viruses.

He added: “If you believe you may have COVID, the best thing to do is take a test and if it is positive, follow government guidelines by self-isolating for five days and avoiding contact with others.”

Latest advice on the XEC strain

According to the latest data from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), one in 10 cases at the moment are an infection from the XEC strain.

There are no symptoms specific to XEC right now. The NHS has continued to list general symptoms of Covid which include:

  • a high temperature or shivering (chills) – a high temperature means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or three or more coughing episodes in 24 hours
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste
  • shortness of breath
  • feeling tired or exhausted
  • an aching body
  • a headache
  • a sore throat
  • a blocked or runny nose
  • loss of appetite
  • diarrhoea
  • feeling sick or being sick

A rise in Covid cases is expected during the winter months, but there are no signs of concern at the moment.

Although self-isolation is no longer a legal requirement in the UK, the NHS has advised anyone who tests positive for Covid to avoid contact with others for at least five days.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Man Utd ‘in tense academy row as they accuse each other of BLOCKING scouts from games’

The issues are alleged to stem from the transfer of talented 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea to Liverpool in the summer.

According to The Athletic, the Blues have been accused by several sources of denying opposition scouts access to academy matches.

Chelsea are said to have denied the claim, countering that they in fact have had applications for scouts to attend games at Liverpool denied.

The Reds have also denied such allegations, but added that they would likely turn Chelsea down in future, given that the agreements are supposed to be reciprocal.

In addition to Liverpool, Man Utd are also said to have had applications to attend Chelsea youth matches this season denied.

The Red Devils were also interested in signing Ngumoha from the Blues, prior to his Anfield switch.

Figures from the three clubs are claimed to have met last week with the aim of easing tensions.

But no agreement has yet been found.

Ngumoha has featured three times for Liverpool’s Under-18s in the U18 Premier League this season.

He has also played in two Uefa Youth League matches for the Reds.

The winger has been capped by England up to Under-16 level.

As per The Athletic, Liverpool Under-18s boss Marc Bridge-Wilkinson said of Ngumoha last month: “He is here because he’s got potential to go and reach the first team, but besides that, there’s no pressure from us.”
