Tom Brady ‘getting more comfortable’ in new Fox NFL broadcast career with quarterback legend ‘making strides quickly’

TOM Brady is making massive strides in his new Fox NFL broadcast career, a close New England Patriots ally told The Sun.

The 47-year-old finally made the transition from player to broadcaster this year after a season off to rest.

And he has grown into his role as a broadcaster on Fox’s top team alongside Kevin Burkhardt and Erin Andrews.

Brady has called six games so far for the network with his commentary heard regularly heard by more than 20 million people.

His former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has also embarked on a media career after his 24-year tenure in Foxboro ended.

Belichick appears on The Pat McAfee Show and Inside the NFL to break down the best of the action.

And former Patriots director of player personnel Scott Pioli told The Sun, “I think they’re doing a great job.

“I’ve heard more of Tom than Bill and he’s getting more comfortable.

“The bit I’ve watched from the two of them, they’re making strides pretty quickly.

“What they have is they’re smart but they also have experience and they’re able to share those experiences.”

Pioli joined the Patriots at the same time as Belichick in 2000 having worked with him at the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.

He spent eight years as part of the dynasty and oversaw three Super Bowl victories.

Pioli helped Belichick and Brady turn the franchise around and won multiple executive of the year awards.

The 59-year-old also has a career in the media, where he has appeared on NBC’s coverages as well as been a regular on NFL Network.

Pioli left New England in 2008 to become general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs from 2009 to 2012.

He also served as Atlanta Falcons assistant general manager after that for five years.

“This media stuff is not easy – it’s really difficult,” he told The Sun.

The Tom Brady domino effect

Tom Brady will take his seat in Fox's top NFL announce team alongside Kevin Burkhardt.

And his arrival at the network has set off a domino effect with every other announcer moving down one spot.

That means Fox’s NFL coverage in 2024 will feature entirely new broadcast pairings.

Greg Olsen, who previously worked alongside Burkhardt, will now be part of the No. 2 announce team with Joe Davis.

The other Fox pairings for 2024 are:

  • Adam Amin-Mark Sanchez
  • Kenny Albert-Jon Vilma
  • Kevin Kugler-Daryl Johnston
  • Chris Myers-Mark Schlereth

“Because you have knowledge and experience, it doesn’t mean we can give that information to people.

“I liken it to teaching – there’s a lot of teachers and educators who are really smart, but can they communicate it to the student?

“It has to be put out in a powerful way that people can understand.

“What jams you up sometimes in this job is you have so much information.

“Then you’ve only got a couple of seconds to make a point that’s digestible.”

The 6 signs your child has ‘TikTok brain’ – and how many hours is safe to scroll

SOCIAL media usage has shot up in recent years, with more of us than ever glued to Instagram, Tik Tok, X and Facebook.

Research from GWI shows that globally, nearly a third (30 per cent) of 16- to 24-year-olds, 29 per cent of 25- to 34-year-olds and 22 per cent of 35- to 44-year-old spend more than six hours a day on social media.

a woman is laying in bed with a phone on her pillow and the time is 3:45
Experts say there are six key warning signs your child is spending too much time on social media

On top of this, nearly half of 12- to 15-year-olds (48 per cent) use TikTok every single day; this is up from 37 per cent in 2022.

Over half (55 per cent) say they’re using social media to talk to friends, a quarter (24 per cent) are using it to buy things and 51 per cent use it to find funny videos and posts.

But, while social media may have its positives, it can also cause serious problems across various areas of a child’s health.

So much so, that the negative impact on cognition has been dubbed ‘TikTok brain’.

Symptoms include irritability and poor posture, experts say.

Claire Law, counsellor and psychotherapist, says: “Mood swings, anxiety and withdrawal are also common signs of too much time spent online.

“If children are swapping out hobbies they once loved for hours of scrolling or can’t seem to focus on anything else, it’s a warning sign their virtual life is overtaking the real one.”

Claire says that social media is built to be addictive.

“Kids tell me they love TikTok because ‘it’s hilarious’ and ‘there’s always something new’,” she says.

“Each scroll pumps out the hormone dopamine, making them feel good and keeping them hooked.”

Chris Meaden, leading hypnotherapist and founder of The Meaden Clinic, adds that the addiction to social media can start the moment a profile is created.

“New habits are formed, and these are reinforced each time the device is picked up and an app is accessed,” he says.

Concerned that your child’s – or your own – social media usage is becoming a problem?

These are the signs to look out for.

1. They aren’t sleeping

Children over the age of six need up to 12 hours of sleep over a 24-hour period, but excessive time on social media could be disrupting this.

Social media could be wrecking adult sleep too.

Claire says: “It’s not just kids’ brains that are overstimulated — constant screen exposure, especially late at night, leaves us wired.

“The blue light from screens messes with melatonin production, wrecking sleep patterns.”

This lack of sleep can then lead to limited energy during the day and a dampened mood.

“A solid rule? No screens at least an hour before bed to help them – and you – wind down,” adds Claire.

Simbarashe Shamu, a behaviour specialist, adds: “Research has found that stopping social media usage one hour before bedtime also resulted in improved sleep outcomes.”

2. Their posture isn’t right

We know that too much time slumped over a laptop does our posture zero favours, and the same applies for children’s phone usage.

“The curved-neck position from being on the phone for hours will eventually result in physical conditions, if not immediate, eventually in the future,” warns Chris.

“The body is designed to move and flex; not remain in a rigid position for hours every day.”

Claire suggests looking out for slumped shoulders or stiff hands as constant phone use can lead to ‘texting claw’.

“Encourage regular breaks and get them into activities that strengthen their hands, like drawing or moulding clay, to counteract these effects,” she adds.

3. They’re more emotional

If your child seems to be more anxious or upset, it could be due to too much time online.

“In my experience, social media has a powerful influence over our children – and can cause an increase in anxiety, depression, self-harm and much more,” says Chris.

“It affects a child’s development, social skills, attention span and overall mental wellbeing, with real world activities being displaced with virtual ones.”

Ensuring your child still gets good sleep, as per the above, is important, however Claire adds: “If your child is clocking in more than two hours a day on social media, it might be time to draw some lines.

“Balance is critical—when screen time starts pushing out things like homework or outdoor fun, it’s a problem.”

4. They want to be alone

Has your child started to retreat a little more, spending more time in their room?

Whilst this is often a classic teenager trait, it may be a sign that they’re spending too much time on their phones.

“A parent may notice their child retreating to their room more than usual,” Chris says.

“They may be more irritable or angry too, they may be exhausted and their eating habits may change.”

Sim adds: “You may notice that social media becomes the most important thing in their day and there is a need for increasing amounts of time on social media to achieve the same buzz.”

5. They’re irritable and angry

As well as the emotional element, your child may start to become more annoyed, perhaps demonstrating a shorter fuse than normal.

“If a child is on social media too much, they’ll be more irritable, become frustrated over small things, be impatient and may experience anger and rage,” says Chris.

Claire adds: “Excessive screen time can rewire your child’s brain, making focus harder and emotional regulation even tougher.

“You might notice them being more impatient when they’re off their phone.

“The constant barrage of quick hits from social media conditions their brains to crave instant rewards, leaving them frustrated with slower, real-world tasks like schoolwork.”

Parents should keep a close eye on their child’s direct messages, especially any hidden ones

Chris MeadenHypnotherapist

Regulating the amount of time your child spends on social media can help.

“As adults we should be able to manage our screentime; a child’s brain isn’t developed enough to do this, so parents need to do it for them,” says Chris.

6. They refuse to share their passwords

Although children should have some privacy, to allow them to grow up independently, according to Chris, parents should be concerned if their child refuses to share their social media passwords.

“Parents should keep a close eye on their child’s direct messages, especially any hidden ones,” he says.

“They should look at the photos that are being shared with their child – including selfies and videos.”

According to research by the Children’s Commissioner’s Office, 45 per cent of children aged eight to 17 have seen content they felt was inappropriate or made them worried or upset.

How to control screen time on Apple products

If you’re an Apple user, you can control your child’s screen time using the parental controls available.

You’ll need to ensure you’re part of the same ‘Family’ across your devices.

Then, tap Screen Time in Settings.

Under Family, choose your child’s name.

Tap Content & Privacy Restrictions and then turn on Content & Privacy Restrictions.

How much time is too much time on social media?

There aren’t any official guidelines on social media usage for kids, or adults.

However, as Sim explains: “In one study, 230 undergraduates were randomly selected to either continue using social media as usual, or limit usage to 30 minutes per day.

“Significant improvements in psychological wellbeing were found after two weeks.”

Half an hour each day might seem too low and unachievable, especially if your child is currently spending much more time than that on social media.

Claire recommends finding a balance.

“Have open discussions about your kids’ online habits and set boundaries everyone can stick to, like no screens during meals or before sleep,” she says.

“And don’t forget — kids reflect what they see. Modelling healthy screen use yourself is half the battle.”

You might benefit from implementing some ‘rules’ which state when phones can be used; ban phones from the table during meals and remove phones and other devices when children go upstairs to bed and leave them to charge downstairs.

Claire adds: “If children are glued to their screens, maybe ask yourself if you’re doing the same.

“Kids often mimic what they see, and when they’re addicted to social media, it’s usually a reflection of what’s happening at home.

“Boundaries like no phones at the dinner table or before bed aren’t just for kids; they help us too.”

If you can, limit your social media usage to when you’re apart from your children.

Cornelia Crilley: The sad fate of Trans World Airlines flight attendant raped and murdered by Rodney Alcala

CORNELIA Crilley was a Trans World Airlines flight attendant who was murdered by Rodney Alcala.

Rodney was known as the Dating Game Killer because of his appearance on the show of the same name, in an outing dramatized on Netflix’s Woman of the Hour.

Tragic murder

Not much is known about Cornelia’s early life, before she was killed by Rodney on June 21, 1971.

She was living in Manhattan at the time, while working as a flight attendant for Trans World Airlines.

Cornelia had reportedly accepted Rodney’s offer of help in moving some furniture, before he strangled her to death.

Unfortunately, Cornelia’s murder went unsolved until 2011 and it was only then that Rodney was revealed to be the man who killed her.

Cornelia was his third confirmed victim, in a crime spree that began in 1968.

Rodney had attacked 16-year-old Morgan Rowan and 8-year-old Tali Shaprio, but both victims were rescued before he could kill them.

Tali was saved by Donald Haines, a salesman who grew suspicious when he saw Rodney lure the 8-year-old into his car.

The Dating Game Killer

Rodney’s crime spree was brought to a temporary halt, when he was jailed for child molestation in 1971.

However, since Tali’s parents didn’t want her to take the stand, it made it difficult to charge Rodney with rape or attempted murder.

The killer later murdered a 27-year-old nurse named Georgia Wixted and an 18-year-old girl named Jill Barcombe, amongst several other victims.

He appeared on The Dating Game in 1978, where he tried to charm a bachelorette named Cheryl Bradshaw into choosing him as a date.

Cheryl eventually did pick Rodney, but chose not to go on the date after he made several sinister jokes.

Eventually, Rodney was brought to justice after murdering a 12-year-old girl named Robin Samsoe.

The police circulated a sketch of the suspect which was recognised as Rodney by his old parole officer, who had been assigned to him after his attack on Tali.

He was arrested in 1979 and sentenced to death in 1980.

However, the sentence was overturned in 1984 and he spent the rest of his life in prison, before dying in 2021.

Liam Payne’s ex-girlfriend Danielle Peazer struggling to ‘face reality’ as she breaks silence after star’s tragic death

LIAM Payne’s ex-girlfriend Danielle Peazer has broken her silence after the singer’s untimely death.

The One Direction star, 31, tragically fell to his death from the third floor of his hotel in Buenos Aires on Wednesday.

And now his former partner Danielle  revealed she isn’t “mentally strong enough to face the reality of what has happened”.

After dating on and off from 2010 to 2012, she posted a tribute to Liam on Instagram on Saturday.

The model wrote: “In time I will share more, but right now I don’t feel mentally strong enough to face the reality of what’s happened,” explaining that she had been taking the last several days to comprehend the news of the star’s passing.

Danielle described it as a “heartbreaking time,” adding that nasty trolls’ negative remarks had made the past several days even more challenging.

It comes as…

She wrote: “Like all of us, I too am grieving, and need to take some time to do that privately.

“It’s a heartbreaking time, which has already been made so much more challenging due to receiving negative and misinformed comments as well pre conceived judgement from those who don’t personally know me, Liam or anything about out relationship over the last 14 years.

“I will be back soon when I’m ready but until then please take care of each other.”

Danielle acknowledged the negative abuse she had received, but she also expressed gratitude for the encouraging words she got in messages.

The model said: “Thank you to anyone who has taken the time to call, text, or DM sending condolences and offering support.

“I’m so grateful and it’s helped more than you know.”

Since they first met in 2010 on the X Factor, Danielle, who is currently in a relationship and has a daughter named Mia with Sonny Jay, dated Liam intermittently.

They were believed to have had a brief reconciliation back in 2022 after their split in 2012.

In an interview in October 2012, Liam acknowledged that his breakup with Danielle had left him “devastated.”

Danielle’s statement comes shortly after Liam’s sister posted a heartbreaking tribute to her “best friend” following his tragic death.

The One Direction singer’s sibling Ruth Gibbins posted a lengthy testimonial to her Instagram page, including a message directly addressing the Little Things singer where she said: “I’m sorry I couldn’t save you.”

Ruth, 33, recalled their happy memories together in the message, before uploading a bittersweet series of images showing their strong bond.

In her emotional message – which came after Liam, 31, passed in Argentina – she also addressed the dad-of-one’s son Bear, aged seven, who he shares with popstar Cheryl, and insisted “we’ll take care of him.”

Ruth wrote: “I don’t believe this is happening. Many times have I poured my heart out publicly with pride about Liam but never much about life as his sister.

“Liam is my best friend, no one could ever make me laugh as much as him, doing his impressions always had me creasing and he loved seeing how much of a laugh he could get.

“He moved out when he was 17 to chase his dreams, its this that forced me to finally pass my driving test during the factor live show weeks because I couldn’t stand the thought of not being able to get to him.

“I would regularly drive to have tea with him after I finished work, just to sit around. One month the hotel was right by a Wagamamas and I swear he had it morning, noon and night!”

In a very personal, poignant moment, Ruth shared with her followers a list of “notes on my phone with things to tell Liam.”

She then followed this by penning a heart-wrenching tribute to her youngest sibling.

Meanwhile, Liam’s grieving dad is reportedly trying to get his son’s body back home in the UK as soon as possible to lay him to rest.

The singer’s loved ones made a desperate dash to South America late on Wednesday night just hours after learning the heartbreaking news.

Footage taken outside the Casa Sur hotel on Friday showed a sombre Geoff Payne bending down to read messages written to his son.

The distraught, bleary-eyed dad waved to Liam’s fans as he took in the touching display.

Dressed in a dark suit with his hands clasped in front of him, Geoff was shielded by police and security from dozens of fans and reporters.

One Direction statements in full

We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say.

But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.

The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us.

We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam. – Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry.

Louis Tomlinson wrote: “His experience from a young age, his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing. The list goes on.

“Thank you for shaping us Liam.

“I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me I will be the Uncle he needs in his life and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was.

“I wish I got a chance to say goodbye and tell you one more time how much I loved you.”

Zayn Malik said: “Liam I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t help but think selfishly that there was so many more conversations for us to have in our lives.

“I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life.

“When I was missing home as a 17-year-old kid, you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let me know you were my friend and that I was loved.”

He added: “When it came to the music, Liam, you were the most qualified in every sense.

“I knew nothing in comparison, I was a novice child with no experience and you were already a professional.

“I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly.

“I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever”.

And Harry Styles wrote: “I am truly devastated by Liam’s passing.

“His greatest joy was making other people happy, and it was an honour to be alongside him as he did it.

“Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was infectious.

“He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving.

“The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life. I will miss him always, my lovely friend.

“My heart breaks for Karen, Geoff, Nicola and Ruth, his son Bear, and all those around the world who knew and loved him, as I did.”

Donald Haines: Man who saved 8-year-old Tali Shapiro from Dating Game Killer and rapist Rodney Alcala

DONALD Haines is a former sales representative whose quick thinking saved 8-year-old Tali Shapiro from serial killer Rodney Alcala’s clutches.

Donald’s job meant he was constantly on the road and a chance spotting of Tali and Rodney in 1968 changed Tali’s life forever.

A heroic rescue

Not much is known about Donald’s life before he rescued Tali Shapiro from the Dating Game Killer, except for the fact he was a sales representative.

Donald recalled that he saw Rodney on the corner of Wiltshire Boulevard and thought that he seemed “fixated on this little girl”.

This disturbed Donald, who watched Tali get into Rodney’s car when she was clearly meant to be on her way to school.

Unbeknownst to him, Rodney had claimed to know Tali’s parents in a vile bid to lure her to his home.

Concerned for Tali’s safety, he followed the pair as Rodney’s car pulled away from Wiltshire Boulevard and headed to the Dating Game Killer’s apartment.

Once they arrived, Donald had seen enough to know Rodney was dangerous and knew he had to act fast to save Tali.

He phoned the police, who rushed to the scene, and kicked down the door to discover Tali lying in a pool of her own blood.

Thankfully, a police officer named Chris Camacho, Jr. was able to rescue the 8-year-old before Rodney could kill her.

She had been attacked with a metal bar and showed signs of being sexually assaulted, but Rodney had fled the scene by the time the police had broken down the door.

Tali was Rodney’s second confirmed victim.

His first, Morgan Rowan, also survived her brush-in with the killer which took place just a month before Rodney attacked Tali.

Morgan was 16-years-old when she was kidnapped by Rodney Alcala and attacked.

Luckily, her friends managed to break a window and dragged her out before Rodney could killer her.

The Dating Game Killer

Unfortunately, Rodney went on to claim even more victims in a crime spree that lasted into the 1970s.

Rodney went to New York and claimed another victim named Cornellia Crilley, while using the alias Jack Berger.

However, two children recognised his picture on the FBI Most Wanted list and he was soon extradited to California to face justice for his horrific attack on Tali.

Tali’s parents refused to let her take the stand, making it difficult to charge Rodney with rape or murder.

The killer was sent to prison for child molestation, but by 1977 he was at large once again.

Rodney is known to have then killed a 27-year-old nurse named Georgia Wixted and an 18-year-old named Jill Barcombe, before going on the game show that would earn him his nickname.

He appeared on The Dating Game in 1978, where he tried to charm Cheryl Bradshaw into choosing him as a date.

Ultimately, she couldn’t go through with the date because his sinister humour suggested that Rodney was not the man that he seemed.

Eventually, Rodney was brought to justice after murdering 12-year-old Robin Samsoe.

A police sketch of the killer reached his old parole officer, who had been assigned to him after his attack on Tali.

This launched a search for Rodney, who was arrested in 1979 and sentenced to death in 1980.

The sentence was eventually overturned in 1984 and he instead spent the rest of his life in prison, before dying of natural causes in 2021.
