“If… it does get butchered”: The Beginning After The End Creator’s Recent Message Hints the Anime is Already Doomed

The Beginning After the End is a promising webtoon written by TurtleMe and illustrated by Fuyuki23. The webtoon expands on the story of a great king whose soul gets reincarnated into a world filled with magic and monsters. Miraculously, the protagonist, Arthur, remembers everything from his past life.

The series began serialization in July 2018, and over the years, it has received a considerable amount of attention. After its widespread popularity, it was picked up to receive an anime adaptation that is set to air in 2025.

While fans of The Beginning After the End have been jumping up and down for joy ever since the anime announcement was made, recent updates from the author have dampened it to an extent. A comment by TurtleMe on Discord has scared fans about what the series has in store.

If an anime does happen at some point and it does get butchered, then I hope at least it brings a lot of new readers to the comic and novel haha. That’s all I can hope for.

This ominous comment was made on September 21, 2024, by the author. This was a month before the anime adaptation was officially announced at the New York Comic Con on October 19, 2024. This means that at the time of making the comment, the author already knew about the upcoming series. However, its tone indicates that the creator doesn’t have high expectations for it.

The primary reason could be that A-Cat, the anime studio that is in charge of the animation production of The Beginning After the End, does not have many hits in its bag. It has produced 13 anime so far, and none of them were able to make a splash in the anime industry. It is entirely possible that the webtoon might not be given the treatment it deserves.

The competition in the anime industry at the moment is extremely tough. From long-running series like One Piece and My Hero Academia to recent hits like Dandadan, the industry is majorly dominated by the Shonen series from Weekly Shonen Jump. Every quarter, a new hit arises from this cutthroat competition, and only the one with the best plot, animation, and overall production wins.

The Beginning After the End, on the other hand is being animated by a company that can be called mediocre at best. A-Cat’s recent productions include The Strongest Magician in the Demon Lord’s Army Was a Human, I’ve Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills, and She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man. And all of these are isekai stories just like The Beginning After the End. The bad news is that none of them have gained enough recognition to be called a hit.

Another speculation regarding the series is the involvement of the author himself. It is entirely possible that TurtleMe was not allowed to supervise the anime or suggest changes to the script. Even if a series is terrible, an anime adaptation from a good studio can make up for it. However, The Beginning After the End is facing a slow dwindling of fans, and the upcoming anime adaptation looks no good either. In fact, the anime might end up being an adaptation that could be easily forgotten.
