The Beginning after The End Author TurtleMe Admits Not Having “Final Say” in 1 Aspect of the Anime

With a flurry of South Korean webtoons being adapted into anime versions, a standout is The Beginning After The End by TurtleMe. The world-building and magic system is unique. With a compelling blend of fantasy, reincarnation storylines, and character-driven plots, you cannot miss The Beginning After The End. The author of this fantasy webtoon also has shown an interesting perspective on how the animation industry does things quite differently as opposed to the illustrators.

TurtleMe himself admits that there’s one crucial aspect of the anime adaptation where he doesn’t have any control. The process of adapting The Beginning After The End hasn’t been easy, but it has taught TurtleMe something new about the nuances of collaborating with animation studios. Where will the 2025 adaptation of The Beginning After The End go?

Adapting any material into an anime has proven to be a challenge and not always entirely faithful to its source. The same fate could fall upon The Beginning After The End. It’s every author’s nightmare that the adaptations will not understand the core essence of their masterpiece. After all, it’s their brainchild, and nobody but TurtleMe could write The Beginning After The End with its well-thought-out magic system and emotional storytelling. Moreover, fans have praised Arthur Leywin for being a realistic main protagonist.

In a recent interview, TurtleMe discusses how the collaboration with Studio A-Cat and the lack of control over the animation needed an adjustment period:

As the creator of my own story universe, I’m used to having the final say of everything that goes. However, one thing I realized early on is that I may be the expert on The Beginning After the End, but the studio is the expert in animation storytelling. They are looking at it through a different lens and I need to be very mindful of that.

As TurtleMe realized for himself, the shift from webtoon pages to animation is not just about recreating the web novel scene by scene. Animation introduces new dynamics such as pacing, visual flow, and emotional voice acting that all have to harmonize to create the best adaptation. This will always require some creative liberties in an adaptation that TurtleMe did not anticipate. The author might be the boss when it comes to the webtoon’s flow and style, but when it comes to an anime adaptation, he has to pass the torch to Studio A-Cat for the best visualization of the story in an anime format.

Fan expectations are high for the adaptation of The Beginning After The End. It’s a beloved series that only gets better as you continue to read it, and its visuals will not disappoint. TurtleMe’s open-minded approach and cooperation with Studio A-Cat also show that the studio won’t tamper with it in a way that would destroy The Beginning After The End.

The trust seemed to have already been built between the two, a great sign that the adaptation will respect the source while having to make a few sacrifices here and there. It will also be fascinating to see how Studio A-Cat will bring The Beginning After The End to life in the series.

The Beginning After The End is expected to be released in 2025 on Crunchyroll.
