Allegations on Harvey Weinstein from over eighty women came as a shock to the world. The Hollywood mogul was accused of s*xual misconduct by various survivors with disturbing details regarding the producer’s abuse of power. In 2020, Weinstein was convicted of two counts of r*pe and was sentenced to 23 years in prison (via The Guardian).

However, in April 2024, the New York Court of Appeals reportedly overturned the landmark judgment, claiming that the judge had allowed testimonies of crimes that were not mentioned in the charges. According to NBC News, the statement read,

We conclude that the trial court erroneously admitted testimony of uncharged, alleged prior s*xual acts against persons other than the complainants of the underlying crimes because that testimony served no material non-propensity purpose.

While Weinstein still serves time for his convictions in a Californian court, he is reportedly awaiting a retrial for his New York convictions.
