Usher was quite young when he was thrown into the allegedly dark world of the rapper. With this, fans cannot help but look back at his seemingly disguised cautionary tales.
In 2016, he gave an interview where he talked about his experiences living with the disgruntled rapper when he was only 14 years old.
An Unfit Environment for a Teenager?
Long before Sean “Diddy” Combs became a wavy figure in the eyes of the public, Usher gave an interview on The Howard Stern Show, where he talked about his experience living with the rapper. He started by revealing that the experience was a very ‘wild’ one for him.
It was pretty wild. It was crazy. There were very curious things taking place and I didn’t necessarily understand it.
He further elaborated on the word, explaining that he was exposed to many things during his time with Combs—things that he did not understand fully at his age. Although he explained that the point of his going to live with the rapper in New York was to experience more than his stardom had to offer, he seemed at a loss for words when he was explaining his time there.
I went there to see the lifestyle and I saw it. And it was, and it was… But I don’t know if I could indulge and understand what I was even looking at. It was, it was pretty wild. It was crazy.
He was then asked quite a peculiar question about if he had ever been approached by a woman for something suggestive. While one could have easily answered the question with a ‘no’ and moved on, the singer was very careful about the words he used.
So nobody tried to, you know. Some woman didn’t come along and say… Okay.
He mentioned that that was not what he said. He simply mentioned that the experience was bizarre for his 14-year-old self and ended the topic there.
Usher Does Not Trust His Son With Diddy
One can easily read into these comments and assume that all of Usher’s experiences living with Diddy were somewhat sketchy. However, the singer was adamant that not all that he experienced at the rapper’s house was negative. He initially mentioned that the atmosphere at the house wasn’t always as ‘wide’ as many would think.
Biggie Smalls was there. ‘Lil’ Kim, Craig Mack, you know, all these people, Faith Evans, Jodeci, Mary J. Blige.
The singer also revealed that he got to meet a lot of very successful and important people in the music industry, naming Biggie Smalls, ‘Lil’ Kim, and Craig Mack, as a few. He also added that his parents did not know about what was going on at the disgruntled rapper’s house. However, he tried to maintain the ground that this was a good experience for him.
Hell no.
However, there was one question that Howard Stern put forth that fans could find peculiar. When the interviewer asked the singer if he would want his son to experience the same thing, he was adamant about his rejection of the idea.
