The Wild Robot, brought to audiences by the studio that did Shrek and How to Train Your Dragon, has taken the film industry by storm, thanks to its stunning narrative and visuals. DreamWorks has really shown where every dollar of the budget has gone, delivering a stellar cast in a heartwarming film, based on a celebrated children’s book.
With Universal Pictures distributing, The Wild Robot has already generated a lot of Oscar buzz, with fans saying that the film will win at least one Academy Award. However, should the film miss out on its well-deserved Best Animation Award, there is one other place where it can pick up it’s recognition from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The Wild Robot has a beautiful score that is worthy of recognition as well
Kris Browers, who ventured into his maiden animation project with The Wild Robot, has received high praise for his work on the soundtrack for the film. Having scored projects like Bridgerton, King Richard, and Green Book, the composer is short of accolades and praises when it comes to composing great pieces of music for emotionally complex films and shows. Collider has referred to the score as a character in its own right, given how it interacts with the story and how it makes the audience feel.
Given the heaps of praise that have been poured on the film, it might not be remiss for the Academy to give the score of the film a nomination in the Best Original Score category. The film;’s score, in its own unique way, managed to create an ambience that elevated the film, which was something that Chris Sanders, the director of the film, wanted to heavily rely on. Further, the score of the film is also a perfect fit for the journey that we see the principal characters Roz and Brightbill go on.
The animation for The Wild Robot has tough competition from the likes of Transformers One
Transformers One and The Wild Robot are just some of the great animated offerings of the year, joining the ranks of the likes of Inside Out 2 or even Flow. Despite the film having great animation, The Wild Robot could face some tough competition in the best-animated feature category.
2024 has been a spectacular year in animation, that has managed to deliver some great films, not just from Hollywood, but from around the world, and from places where most fans of the medium did not expect great entries to come from. Whether it be Pakistan with The Glassworker or Latvia with Flow, there seems to be a global animation awakening that is just waiting to happen, with 2025 promising more features of great quality from around the world. However, awards season will probably see multiple animated films competing for the top spot, which would be a great step ahead for the medium.
