Dragon Ball DAIMA Can Solve the Most Annoying Issue With Trunk and Goten

For fans of the legendary Dragon Ball series, the dynamic duo of Goten and Trunks has always been a source of great excitement. Coupled with youthful energies, the sons of Goku and Vegeta pumped new enthusiasm into this behemoth franchise with their interesting characteristics. However, a glaring inconsistency has long puzzled fans, as their aging apparently remains stationary!

With the 9 whole years of runtime of Dragon Ball Super, this only makes it all the more puzzling. Without any proper explanation, Goten and Trunks were paused in a time warp until their sudden growth in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Fans were left scratching their heads, asking what brought on this strange, jarring creative choice, and what exactly it set up for the future of the Dragon Ball saga.

From the start of Dragon Ball Super’s original arcs including the Universe 6 saga, to the end of the Buu Saga, this huge time span should have made Trunks and Goten both 14 years old by that point. Surprisingly, they did not really develop at all! This has led to much confusion among the fans.

However, Future Trunks, who is also 14 in his timeline, showed obvious physical development and maturity. It makes one scratch his head on how the half-Saiyan characters in the movie showed inconsistent developments. While Saiyan children’s sudden growth spurts could explain Goten’s delayed development, it still fails to account for Trunks’ stagnant appearance, particularly when compared to his future self.

Other half-Saiyans developed in incomprehensively different ways. Gohan was first introduced as a 4 or 5-year-old but shares the same stature as 12-year-old Goku. It doesn’t make any sense, especially since there is no clue as to why Trunks hasn’t developed yet in the main universe, but maybe this is simply a matter of not having enough insight into the Super series.

Dragon Ball DAIMA Can Solve This Major Continuity Error

The new Dragon Ball series, Dragon Ball DAIMA, appears to be presenting something quite intriguing, a mysterious curse that takes the main characters and shrinks them to childlike proportions. The series already showed, young Goten and Trunks regressing back to infancy, so it seems like this curse can affect their growing abilities. This will perhaps be the first explanation for the unexplained growth issue of these two iconic characters.

The curse may alter the growth path of Goten and Trunks as they grow into older kids. This reversal could reset their aging, forcing them to relive the normal growth stages of a child. That would be a creative way of filling in the gap in their aging between Dragon Ball Z and Super Hero.

The DAIMA narrative explaining that Goten and Trunks are still somewhat inconsistently continuing to age allows for an easy solution that would have been far more believable if the story had explained the situation earlier. Coming up with such a narrative well might just be the end to this long-standing mystery that has puzzled most fans. This would add a new dimension to the Dragon Ball universe and redefine the way these two dearly beloved characters grow and develop.

The Dragon Ball series is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
