What is the Bug Room code in Silent Hill 2 Remake?
When you first step into the room, it quickly becomes clear that smashing bugs is just the least of your issues. The real problem is the keypad on the door that needs a three-digit code.
If you’ve played Silent Hill 2 before, you might remember finding clues on walls in other areas. But in this case, there are no clues hidden around the room, and no way to outsmart the game.
Instead, players should focus on the keypad. After you’ve cleared the bugs that are crawling around, check it closely. You’ll notice something important: while most of the keypad is covered in blood, three keys aren’t.
These clean keys are the clue you need to solve the puzzle. Every few seconds, the room lights will flicker, and you’ll see the numbers light up on the pad.
The numbers you’re looking for are 2, 3, and 9. These are the three digits that aren’t covered in blood, and those are what you’ll be using to open the door. Now, the tricky part is figuring out the right order to punch them in, since there are six possible combinations.
If you’re playing on Light or Standard Puzzle Challenge, the code is always 923. Type that in, and the door will unlock, letting you move on to the next part of the prison.
Hard Mode Has Different, Randomized Codes
If you’re playing on the Hard Puzzle Challenge, things get a little more intense. In this mode, the code is randomized, meaning you’ll need to try all six possible combinations of the numbers 2, 3, and 9. The codes you’ll need to test are as follows:

- 293
- 329
- 392
- 923
- 932
While you’re figuring out the right code, the bugs in the room will keep attacking, making it more stressful as you try each combination. These little creatures can actually start draining James’ health, so you’ll want to move fast.
Once you finally get the right code, the door will open, and you’ll be free from the swarming bugs. This is a nice little touch, and the unique puzzle solution lives up to the hard mode difficulty. After escaping, you can continue exploring the depths of Toluca Prison.
