Hogwarts Legacy 2 Only Needs One Tweak to Make it Work That the Original Game Completely Forgot to Add

Hogwarts Legacy was an instant hit among franchise fans when it came out in 2023. Fans could finally have a modern gaming experience in the Wizarding World and it was great, But despite its impressive world-building and nostalgic charm, Hogwarts Legacy left out a crucial gameplay element: a morality system.

In a game where you can cast the darkest spells in wizarding lore, the absence of any meaningful consequence for these actions felt like a missed opportunity. But luckily, there’s a sequel on the way and we can hope that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will have a morality system.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 Has A Lot To Learn From The First Game

One of the most criticized aspects of Hogwarts Legacy was the freedom to cast spells like Avada Kedavra, Imperio, or Crucio without any meaningful repercussions. In the Harry Potter books and films, these Unforgivable Curses come with severe consequences, including life sentences in Azkaban.

But in the game, players could use them repeatedly with nothing more than a dismissive comment from an NPC. The lack of punishment for such actions broke the immersion and disappointed fans familiar with the Harry Potter universe, where morality and consequences are central themes.

A morality system was originally planned for Hogwarts Legacy but was scrapped before the game’s release. Data miners discovered files indicating that house points and a morality system were part of the game’s initial design. For instance, using the killing curse Avada Kedavra would have cost players 100 house points.

But the idea of losing house points for something as serious as murder (100 points) compared to falling asleep in class (10 points) is a bit ridiculous. It makes sense why it wasn’t added to the game then but hopefully, they can improve on it and add it to the sequel.

The Morality System Isn’t New And There’s A Lot To Take Inspiration From

Beyond just punishing dark actions, a morality system could be used to create a more dynamic world. In games like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, player decisions directly impact how NPCs react and how the story progresses.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 could benefit from a similar system where other students and teachers treat the player differently depending on their moral alignment. For example, if a player frequently uses dark magic, they might gain a reputation as a feared and dangerous student, while those who avoid it could become beloved by their peers.

A well-implemented morality system could address several issues that plagued the original game. Firstly, it would add depth to the gameplay by making choices matter. Players would need to consider the consequences of their actions, much like how it was in the Harry Potter series.

Additionally, such a system could introduce real consequences for negative actions. Instead of merely losing House Points, players could face more substantial penalties, such as detention, suspension, or even expulsion from Hogwarts.

A morality system would also add to the game’s replayability. Different moral choices could lead to various story paths and endings, encouraging players to experience the game multiple times to see all possible outcomes.

There are a lot of ideas, that’s for sure. Fans can only hope for some of these theories to become actual features. But we can only wait and see.
