Emilia Clarke Put Kit Harington in His Place for His Constant ‘Game of Thrones’ Complaints: ‘He’s definitely got it better’

Playing a character in HBO’s Game of Thrones is not an easy task; apart from portraying someone with an unexpected fate, the conditions on set are far from comfortable. Emilia Clarke knew this because of her almost-decade stint as Daenerys Targaryen. In fact, she believed she had it worse than costar Kit Harington.

The latter portrayed Jon Snow, the Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch, and he complained about his costume and the discomfort he always felt while filming. To be fair, his cloak of fur truly looked cumbersome, but it didn’t come close to Clarke’s situation.

Emilia Clarke Countered Kit Harington’s Protest About His Jon Snow Costume

While guesting at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, actress Emilia Clarke talked about the final season of Game of Thrones, and somewhere in their conversation, the host brought up Kit Harington’s previous visit to the show and his complaint about his costume.

The actor ranted about wearing 40 pounds of fur and the unfriendly cold climate he was stationed in, a fact that Clarke seemingly already knows. “He does really like to tell everyone that,” she joked.

The English star later explained the difference in their situations. Harington filmed in Iceland with a shortened period because they only get four hours of daylight while she was “in a quarry in Malta in a hundred-degree heat, passing out every single season because I’ve got two sets of hair on my head.”

The Me Before You actress amusingly acknowledged her costar’s rant but later said, “Kit is always complaining he’s got it worse and he’s definitely got it better.” Clarke even joked that the actor was already drinking by two in the afternoon because he only worked for a few hours in his location.

She also quipped about being in the quarry till eleven at night and begging the sun to go down because she could no longer handle the heat. Her wardrobe in the earlier seasons saw her wearing light fabrics, but that does not remove the humid and hot temperature of her surroundings.

Both of them truly had a challenging time on the set of Game of Thrones, but because they were polar opposites in terms of location, it’s hard to measure who really had it worse.

Emilia Clarke Revealed Men on Game of Thrones Had a Cooling System

Clarke revealed in her interview with Glamour that girls had to endure heat while the boys had a “cooling system” under their costumes. Since men’s ensembles were usually large cloaks, the designers were able to insert pumps into the outfits powered by a generator that injected cold water to cool them all down.

Unfortunately, the Mother of Dragons did not have that privilege. “Girls weren’t allowed that. All I could get was the back of my wig was allowed to be lifted up every once in a while,” she sighed. Usually, women’s costumes were designed to fit snugly on their bodies so there was no way to hide any cooling system underneath.

Game of Thrones is currently available to watch on HBO.
