Silent Hill 2 Remake: Solving the Electric Chair Generator Puzzle

The Silent Hill 2 Remake is now available on the PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. The game developers faithfully remade the original game from the ground up with the power of Unreal Engine 5 and added a few challenging puzzles that will get the old brain jogging.

Players will take on the role of James Sunderland as he embarks on a quest to find his deceased wife in the eerie and creepy town of Silent Hill. James will encounter a few puzzles and challenges that will slow their progress, and this is a quick guide to solve one of them.

Fighting enemy monsters isn’t hard enough in this remake.

The Toluca Prison is a treasure trove of puzzles that even the most seasoned Silent Hill 2 player will struggle to get through most of them. James will acquire the Death Row Map that will help him navigate the prison halls and corridors until he makes his way to the Witness Room, where he can spot a generator beside a locked door.

Tip
It is worth noting that different solutions are dependent on the difficulty selected before starting the story of the Silent Hill 2.

Most players would prefer to go for the standard difficulty, the fine balance between the hardest and easiest—without making a big deal out of it. Players will have to overload the Witness Room generator and reach the red zone of the panel. There are 6 panels on the standard difficulty that must be flipped in the proper sequence, and it follows:

  • 6th
  • 4th
  • 5th
  • 1st
  • 3rd
  • 2nd

After inputting this specific order, players can flip the switch and advance the story without a sweat. Fans of the original version of Silent Hill 2 know what to expect and should avoid making mistakes that could further complicate their progress.

On the other hand, players interested in a much more challenging experience can spice up their playthrough by playing the remake on the hardest difficulty, which will have an extra switch that needs to be flipped accordingly.

  • 4th
  • 5th
  • 2nd
  • 1st
  • 3rd
  • 6th
  • 7th

If one of the switches is flipped incorrectly, players can restart the sequence until it works. Once the main lever has been flipped, the alarm of the Serpent Section will start blaring, alerting all nearby enemies and sending them into a frenzy. It is worth noting to grab a few extra supplies and avoid using the flashlight as much to make it harder for enemies to spot you.

Silent Hill 2 Players Will Have to Flip the Right Switches Before Advancing

A still from Silent Hill 2 remake.
The remake of Silent Hill 2 is full of puzzles that can be a massive head-scratcher.

Even for a creepy horror game franchise like Silent Hill, the game developers wanted the player base to use their heads and think critically to solve simple puzzles. Most players are into fast-paced action and do not want to take breaks solving puzzles or whatever mechanism the developers introduced.

The game developers found the right balance between fast-paced action and problem-solving in a horror game. It is not easy to fit different game mechanics into a horror game because some will likely drag the gameplay and could dissuade players from advancing.

The Electric Chair Generator is far from the hardest puzzle in the game; however, when tensions are high and all it takes is to flip the right switches, it can be easy to make a mistake. This guide will teach you the right sequence to flip the switches and to solve the puzzle on standard and hard difficulty.

Some players are plum out of patience and do not have the time to solve puzzles. Hopefully, this guide will make your Silent Hill 2 Remake experience much smoother and more convenient.
