Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero – How to Unlock All Characters

Once you know how to unlock all characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, you are truly ready to make the most of this game’s massive roster. With fan favorites and even some lesser-known fighters flying into the fray, it can get a bit confusing to fill out all the empty spaces in your roster.

The Tenkaichi games have always been known for their massive selection of fighters. The third game in the series also allowed players to use fusion to create some! While that mechanic is not present in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, the game does have a robust roster, and we’re going to tell you how you can get them all!

How to Unlock All Characters in Sparking Zero?

Sparking Zero has the largest roster in the Tenkaichi franchise.

Unlocking all of the characters in Sparking Zero requires you to finish Episodic and Bonus battles, compete in Tournaments, spend Zeni, complete Zen-Oh orders, and summon a dragon using the Dragon Balls. Now that might sound like a lot, but you will unlock a good chunk of the fighters just by completing Dragon Ball Sparking Zero’s campaign mode.

With over 180 characters to unlock, players might be raring to hit the campaign mode, but there is one other mechanic to keep in mind: player level.

This is increased by completing many of the above-mentioned tasks and will determine whether a character can be made available to you. That’s right, even if you have the required amount of Zeni to outright buy a fighter, you will also need to reach a specific level to make the purchase.

Tip
If you purchase a character initially and then unlock it again through the corresponding task, the Zeni you spent will be refunded.

The great news is that once you unlock a character’s base form, you have access to all of their transformations as well. While you will need to accrue the required number of Skill Points in battle to perform a transformation, it will give you access to an entirely new set of moves and even some health buffs if you perform a fusion, such as Gogeta Super Saiyan 4. Here are the ways you can unlock all of the characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.

Episodic and Bonus Battles

Episodic battles will take you through some iconic moments in the series.

These are the bread and butter of how you will unlock most of the characters in the game. By experiencing the story modes and Bonus battles of many beloved characters, you will be able to add new fighters to your roster and experience everything there is to offer in this franchise.

These modes will also offer you Zeni and the chance to acquire some Dragon Balls as part of the story, along with improving the proficiency of the fighters you use in the Episodes. You can unlock most fighters simply by going through the many story modes in Sparking Zero.

Purchasing Your Fighters

You can buy every single character in the game, but will cost you a lot of Zeni.

As mentioned before, you can buy practically every single fighter in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. There are some characters who you can get only by parting with your Zeni. The cost of a character will depend on their strength, but also if they are a novelty character who did not get much screen time in the anime.

Earning Zeni in the game can be done in a variety of ways. You can complete Whis’s and Zen-Oh’s tasks, win Tournaments, and ask Shenron to bless you with wealth. The fastest way to earn money in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero would be to set up an Offline Battle on Easy difficulty and select the Out of Bounds rule. Next, pick an opponent that can’t fly, and choose a character that has a Ki Blast with a short animation.

Gogeta (Super) makes a good choice for this, as his Stardust Breaker has very little windup. Also, equip the Rising Fighting Spirit Battle Ability item so you start the battle with full Ki. The moment the battle starts, activate your Super Ki Blast, which should knock your opponent out of bounds. This results in your victory and earning some Zeni for the same. This is also a good way to farm Dragon Balls to summon either Shenron or Porunga and wish for more Zeni.

Summon Fighters

Super Shenron is the only way to acquire two special characters.

Certain playable characters, such as Goku Black and Fused Zamasu, can be acquired by wishing for them. For this, the player will have to collect seven Super Dragon Balls and summon Super Shenron. Unfortunately, Shenron and Porunga don’t seem to be able to grant wishes for these characters, so you need to call in the enhanced version of Earth’s dragon.

You can acquire a full set by completing Goku’s main story. This will also result in many characters being unlocked just by completing the battles. The other way to get them is to complete Trunk’s story mode and his “What If” scenarios.

The drop rate from Offline Battles for these is very rare, and since there are only two characters to unlock, going through the story mode battles is far more worthwhile, and they will also reinforce the fact that Bandai Namco has gone above and beyond with this release this year.

Zen-Ohs Orders

Zen-Oh’s orders can get you more than just characters.

You can acquire some characters such as Broly (Super), Metal Cooler, and Android 13 by completing orders from Zen-Oh. These orders typically require you to use a specific character, or character type, in a battle a certain number of times. Once done, you can visit Zen-Oh and acquire the character corresponding to the task.

Tournaments

Participating in each Tournament will unlock a new character.

Some fighters can only be unlocked after you take part in Tournaments. Winning these Tournaments for the first time will help you get these characters, along with slime extra Zeni that you can spend in the shop for other fighters or cosmetics.

Those are the four ways you can acquire all of the fighters in Sparking Zero! Which fighter is your favorite? Let us know in the comments below and check out our other guides for more tips and tricks.
