I’ve had a pain in my groin for six months and my friend say it could be serious. Help!

EIGHT in ten women in the UK aren’t checking their breasts regularly and a third admit they never check themselves for signs of breast cancer, research by Estée Lauder found in 2022.

This is shocking as two-thirds of cases are detected in this way.

Sun columnist Dr Zoe advises readers on their health[/caption]

I’m in my third year as an ambassador for its breast cancer campaign and we have been focusing on the groups that are least likely to check – including South Asian women, women under 40 and Black women.

Attending mammograms, women are invited between the ages of 50 and 71, is another way to spot breast cancer early. You can ask for mammograms after 71.

Aside from a lump in the breast, chest, collarbone or armpit, other signs to look and feel for are: changes to the skin or nipple, a rash, crusting or discharge around the nipple, or changes in size, shape or colour of the breasts.

See your GP for any changes so they can rule out cancer, or detect it as soon as possible.

Here is a selection of what readers have asked this week. . .

SON’S REAR CONDITION

Q) CAN you please tell me anything about desmin myopathy?

My 51-year-old son has this condition but we are not being told anything about it and I am worried. It is awful to see him suffer in this way.

A) Desmin is a protein that helps maintain the structure and strength of muscles.

Think of it as scaffolding that helps hold muscle fibres together, keeping them aligned and all working properly.

Desmin myopathy (also known as myofibrillar myopathy) is a rare genetic condition that causes muscle weakness, typically in the legs first.

It can slowly spread to the body, neck, face, respiratory muscles and sometimes the heart muscle, causing cardiomyopathy.

The severity and progression of symptoms can vary greatly between individuals.

While this can be a genetic disease, it is not always inherited.

Sometimes the genetic mutation is sporadic, meaning it can arise in people without a family history of the disease.

It is very difficult to watch a loved one suffer, especially with a rare condition that isn’t well understood – the first case of desmin myopathy wasn’t identified until the late Nineties.

Does he have someone to attend hospital appointments with, and share the worry with?

Sometimes when we receive a diagnosis we try to shield our loved ones from information that might upset them. Letting your son know that you want to know everything so that you can help support him may help get some honest conversations started.

Think of ways in which you can offer support in the meantime – cooking meals, supporting childcare, shopping or housework if that is relevant.

I strongly recommend asking your son to engage with specialist nurses or therapists who are part of his healthcare team as they can provide more detailed care and support.

Physiotherapy, mobility aids, and respiratory monitoring are often used to manage this condition, and psychological support can be extremely helpful.

Please don’t hesitate to contact patient groups or charities, such as Muscular Dystrophy UK. They can offer valuable information and emotional support.

The reader has had four knee replacements on his right leg and has just finished radiotherapy for prostate cancer[/caption]

Q) I AM a male, 67 years old, and for the past six months I have had pain in my left groin, particularly when walking or standing for a long time.

I have had four knee replacements on my right leg and have just finished radiotherapy for prostate cancer. I was previously very sporty. I am still playing golf regularly.

Many friends have mentioned this as a sign of needing a hip replacement.

Do you think it may be that, or could it be something else?

A) Osteoarthritis in the hip is a common cause of groin pain in men over 60 and could explain your symptoms.

For example, hip pain can sometimes worsen with walking or standing, and can even affect sleep when lying down.

The multiple knee surgeries may have chan-ged how you walk, putting extra strain on your hips, and potentially accelerating any wear and tear on the joint.

Radiotherapy itself is not linked to osteoarthritis, but the overall stress on your body from cancer treatments, such as hormonal therapy, could play a role in how you recover from or manage joint issues.

You mention having been sporty, and a lifetime of sports that involve high speeds, pivoting, kicking or high impact such as football, rugby, and running can increase the risk of hip osteoarthritis. Having said that, it is important to know that remaining active can help maintain the health of the joint now.

Furthermore, keeping the muscles strong can alleviate the pain.

In particular, lower-impact activities such as cycling, swimming and walking can be beneficial.

Being physically active has many other health benefits, so please do keep it up.

That said, the pain may not actually be coming from the hip joint at all.

Other causes should be considered, such as referred pain from the spine or pelvic region, or even lingering effects from radiotherapy.

An assessment by your GP or an orthopaedic specialist can help determine if this is a hip issue, or something else.

If surgery is a concern, non-surgical options like physiotherapy and pain management can help, and some lifestyle adjustments such as weight loss may also provide relief.

STOPPING MEDS WRECKED MY HAIR

This reader is devastated after stopping medication saw most of her hair fall out[/caption]

Q) I USED to be on vitamin D and alendronic acid for osteoporosis but after about six years, my doctor advised me to stop them.

Within a few months, most of my hair (body and head) fell out and now my fingernails are so brittle. If I mention any of my worries to my doctors they make me feel like a hypochondriac.

I’m not accepting “old age” and my once thick, healthy, shiny hair and lovely nails are gone.

A) I’d be interested to know why you were told to stop taking your treatment.

Most likely it’s the alendronic acid that’s been stopped, due to side effects including heartburn, swallowing difficulty or other issues with the gullet. It may also be stopped if your kidney function goes below a certain threshold.

I would guess that the vitamin D is fine to continue and you should check if it’s OK to restart this. Vitamin D is something we should all be supplementing with from October to March anyway, and for someone with osteoporosis, I would advise supplementing all year round.

Vitamin D deficiency can affect both hair and nail health. Iron, B12, folate, zinc and magnesium deficiency should be ruled out too. If you wanted to have this assessed further and have the funds to do so, you could see a hair and scalp specialist (trichologist).

They will use a special camera to look at the hair follicles and give you bespoke advice about supplements, hair products and lifestyle to optimise your hair health.

I can understand you may feel fobbed off by your GP. It can be very difficult to give patients additional time when we are so limited if the issue is raised at the end of an appointment.

Our hair and nails do change as we age, but it should not be assumed to be all age-related, especially if there was a rapid change when you stopped taking the medication.

Angel Reese was ‘lazy’ in high school, reveals NBA coach following Caitlin Clark controversy in WNBA

ANGEL REESE has been accused of being a “lazy” player during her high school basketball career.

Reese – along with rival Caitlin Clark – has helped take the WNBA to new heights in her few months as a professional.

The Chicago Sky forward enjoyed a strong debut season, averaging 13.6 points, 13.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game.

Reese’s talent was apparent when she was a fresh-faced teenager at St Frances Academy in Maryland.

But according to her former coach Sam Cassell, she wasn’t always the hardest worker.

The Celtics assistant coach said of Reese during an appearance on the ‘Come and Talk 2 Me’ podcast: “That’s my little, that’s my baby girl right there

“Angel, like just watching her grow up through the ranks in Baltimore High School and see her now and play the game of basketball.

“I thought she was so lazy in high school. Because she was so much better than anyone.

“Sometimes she’d miss a layup, get a rebound [and] miss another layup.

“The other team got the ball and she wouldn’t run back down [the] court.”

Cassell, however, admits the former LSU star and No.7 pick in the WNBA draft has come on leaps and bounds since he coached her.

And Reese’s fellow Maryland native is over the moon to see her flying high.

He added: “Seeing her play, it’s like wow we got another one from our town that’s doing something positive and making it.

Although Reese shone in her maiden WNBA season, the same could not be said for the Chicago Sky.

They finished ROCK BOTTOM of the Eastern Conference, with just 13 wins and a whopping 27 losses to their name.

And their woeful season prompted General Manager Geoff Pagliocca to wield the axe on head coach Teresa Weatherspoon late last month.

The firing of Weatherspoon devastated Reese, who wrote on social media: “I’m literally lost for words knowing what this woman meant to me in such a pivotal point in my life.

“She was the only person that believed in me. The one that trusted me.

“Many don’t even know what it’s like to be a black woman in sports when nobody believes in you. You had a tough job.

“All the crazy circumstances that we went through this year & when your back was against the wall, you always believed.

“I came to Chicago because of YOU. You were an unsung hero in my life.

” We built a relationship in a short amount of time that will last forever.”

Dealership banned from selling cars and must pay $110k after ‘tricking customers with fake paperwork and hiding recall’

A USED car dealership and its owner have to pay $110,000 in fines before they can get back to business.

The dealership isn’t allowed to sell any cars until their dues are paid after multiple missed payments and customer complaints.

37 Auto Sales LLC is banned from selling cars[/caption]

Jacobs Lucky and his business, 37 Auto Sales LLC, are both in trouble with the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office in Wichita, Kansas, after violating a consent judgment they agreed to last year.

The district attorney’s Consumer Protection Division filed motions against the dealership and its owner claiming they haven’t made necessary payments to resolve past consumer complaints, local outlet the Wichita Eagle reported.

The judge ordered that each judgment must be paid in full – and an extra $20,000 penalty was added to each fine.

This means the dealership owes the county $80,000, while Lucky owes $30,000, totaling $110,000 owed.

Neither Lucky nor 37 Auto Sales can sell cars in the state of Kansas until the fees are paid. Lucky has also had his license to sell cars revoked, according to local TV station KSCW-DT.

The dealership and its owner entered consent judgments after they were accused of violating the Kansas Consumer Protection Act multiple times.

Consent judgments allow parties in a lawsuit to come to an agreement without anyone being found guilty.

In March 2023, the district attorney’s office said 37 Auto Sales tricked customers by faking paperwork and failing to disclose a safety recall on a car to a buyer.

The DA said from April to September 2020, the dealership violated state law by issuing multiple 60-day temporary registration permits on transactions, according to NBC affiliate KSNW at the time.

State law says that a car sale is fraudulent and void if the consumer doesn’t receive titles within 60 days – plus the buyer is entitled to a full refund.

The outlet reported that records from the dealer showed improper paperwork on titles and sales tax receipts provided to some customers.

The dealership was also accused of selling cars without providing titles and not honoring warranties.

When contacted for comment by The U.S. Sun, 37 Auto Sales LLC, said the accusations aren’t true and the dealership is still currently selling cars – despite the orders from the DA’s office.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to the dealership’s attorney.

Dealership Tips

Here are some expert tips when purchasing a car from a dealership lot:

  • 1. Set your price: Ensure you’ve calculated your monthly budget before going to the lot. You should include the car’s loan payment, insurance costs, fuel, and regular maintenance.
  • 2. Research: Make sure you know which cars you’re interested in test driving before you reach the dealership.
  • 3. Pre-approval: Secure financing before you go to the dealership. Dealerships may give you a better interest rate if they are competing with an outside bank.
  • 4. Test away: Get behind the wheel before making any payments. A car purchase will be worth thousands of dollars – drivers should ensure they like the drivetrain, steering feel, and comfort of the car before taking it off the lot
  • 5. Haggle: Drivers should always try to negotiate the price. There are so many good cars on the American market – buyers have a strong hand when negotiating price.

This isn’t the first time Lucky and his business have been in trouble with the DA’s office.

In 2019, court records show they entered into a consent judgment costing $23,581.51. in total.

KANSAS CRACKDOWN

Another Wichita dealership was shut down for good in August when a customer bought a used vehicle.

Used car dealership iDeal Enterprises, LLC, was fined $159,000 for violating the Kansas Consumer Protection Act.

The Consumer Protection Division received two complaints from customers about the business.

First, the company reportedly failed to provide titles to car buyers.

Then, they were accused of selling cars with open safety recalls attached and didn’t disclose the recalls to the buyer.

After agreeing to a consent judgment in 2019, the dealership didn’t hold up its end of the bargain and eventually had to close its doors.

Diddy accused of raping 2 women, molesting boy, 16, & sexually assaulting 3 men in new lawsuit amid sex trafficking case

SEAN “Diddy” Combs has been slapped with new lawsuits accusing him of rape and sexual assault, including against a 16-year-old boy.

The fresh lawsuits come after Combs was arrested on criminal charges as well as dozens more filing civil suits for rape and assault.

The six new claims were filed against the mogul in a Federal court in New York City today, two by women, three by men, and one by the underage boy.

More than 100 alleged victims are now in the process of taking legal action against Combs in the wake of his sex trafficking and racketeering charges last month.

The new suits were filed by unnamed people who were given generic names.

The 16-year-old John Doe alleges that Combs fondled his genitals when he attended a party in Long Island in 1998.

He claims during a discussion about the boy breaking into the music industry Combs, 28 at the time, told him to drop his pants.

According to the man’s lawsuit, Combs explained to him that it was a rite of passage to becoming a music star, at one point asking him: “Don’t you want to break into the business?”

The 16-year-old’s claim marks the first time that Combs has been accused in the civil and criminal cases of sexual activity with a child.

Combs’ lawyer did not immediately respond to comment when approached by The Sun.

Diddy’s trial date for the criminal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering has been set down for May 5 next year.

Combs has pleaded not guilty to the charges with his lawyer addressing previous claims.

He said Combs “cannot address every meritless allegation in what has become a reckless media circus.”

‘These men are actual giants’, says Jake Paul as he reveals prediction for Francis Ngannou vs Renan Ferreira

JAKE PAUL felt dwarfed after facing off the gigantic duo of Francis Ngannou and Renan Ferreira.

Ngannou makes his MMA return on Saturday in Saudi Arabia against 6ft 8in Brazilian Ferreira.

And two months ago, Paul was tasked with getting in between the two humongous men to square them off.

It marks Ngannou’s first fight back in MMA in over two years following a stint in the boxing ring.

And Paul believes the former UFC champion and now Professional Fighters League star return to the cage with a vengeance.

He said after facing the two off: “Battle of the Giants is very, very real. These men are actual giants.

“And if they were to have started fighting, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything. But, I was there, I was doing my best.

“I had some form, but they’re very strong… I just think Francis just has so much to prove here that he’s going to rise to the occasion.

“With a taller man and as strong as Francis is with his solid base I just think he’s going to be able to clip Ferreira at some point.”

Ngannou, 38, put his MMA career on hold to cross over to the boxing ring to first face Tyson Fury, 36.

And he sensationally dropped the former world heavyweight champ before losing a controversial split-decision.

Ngannou then faced Anthony Joshua, 34, in March but was brutally knocked out in two rounds.

A month later, he endured personal heartbreak when his 15-month-old son Kobe tragically died.

His fight with Ferreira, 34, not only marks his first with the PFL but also since he lost his baby boy and decided against retirement.

Ngannou said: “I didn’t want to do anything but I just realised it was just my pain speaking. My rationality would not allow things like that.

“And also for the reason why I was deciding to retire wasn’t the best reason.

“I think I should use it as motivation and make something beautiful out of it.”

I lived in a wooden house shared with 10 people and mowed grass to earn cash… now I’m MMA champ with $2m in the bank

LARISSA PACHECO was once living in a shared house with ten others and mowing lawns to make ends meet.

Now, she is one of the highest-paid female fighters in the world with $2million in the bank.

She has over $2m in the bank[/caption]

Pacheco has won the $1m winner-take-all Professional Fighters League’s season twice over to sky rocket her wealth.

But she still remembers growing up poor in Belem, the North of Brazil, doing anything she could to get by.

Pacheco, 30, said: “It was tough, we lived in a wooden house, ten people in there.

“Eventually I moved out, asking for favours, hopping from house to house never owning anything but there was always love and that’s what really mattered.

“I remember houses we lived in were on top of a hole, there was not even a place for us to go to the bathroom, sanitation wasn’t even a thing. So we made it through.”

Pacheco began training in Muay Thai aged 15 in a bid to earn a living through fighting – meanwhile working any and all jobs in between.

She said: “I started working at the local market at a very young age helping my family.

“I used to wake up a 4am and help us set up. From there I’d train 10-12 and after training it was a free-for-all. Whatever was available.

“Whatever I could do to bring some additional income in I would. If it was mowing lawns, I would do that, if it was helping someone move in or move out, I’d do that too.

“Carrying stuff, sowing, anything that could give me a couple of extra bucks.”

Pacheco made her pro MMA debut in 2012 and amassed an unbeaten record in Brazil before signing for the UFC.

But her life changed after signing for the PFL, where won consecutive $1m cheques in the featherweight and lightweight divisions.

Although after becoming a millionaire, long-lost family and friends began reaching out to reconnect.

She laughed: “You had all sorts of cousins, long-lost friends from childhood, family members I’d never even heard of!

“But let’s just say all those calls ended up going to voicemail.”

Pacheco now returns on Saturday in Saudi Arabia against MMA legend Cris Cyborg, 39.

Georgia coach Kirby Smart facing calls to be suspended for Texas game after controversial incident against Mississippi

GEORGIA Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart could be disciplined after an unusual incident.

The sequence occurred during Georgia‘s 41-31 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs over the weekend.

During the fourth quarter, Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren Jr. ran the ball for six yards and ran out of bounds on the Georgia sideline.

After the play, ESPN’s cameras showed that Smart was yelling at the side judge.

As Van Buren looked to head back to the field, Smart took off his visor and pushed the signal-caller, who stayed on his feet.

The play took place with a little less than three minutes left in the contest.

Smart wasn’t penalized for the sequence despite a referee being near him, reacting to the contact, and separating the head coach and player.

After the game, Smart was asked about the incident.

The coach said he was trying to get the attention of UGA defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann and didn’t remember pushing Van Buren Jr.

“I think I was going after Schumann,” Smart said, per CBS Sports.

“I was trying to get Schumann’s attention.

“We were trying to change personnel.

“I think it’s the play they came over to our sideline and trying to get Schumman’s attention.

“But, no, I don’t really remember it.”

The fourth quarter play came while Mississippi State mounted a rally to get them back into the game against Georgia.

Van Buren threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns and connected with Kelly Akharaiyi for a 35-yard pass late in the fourth quarter to cut the game within 10 points.

Georgia persevered at the end as quarterback Carson Beck threw for a career-high 459 yards in the victory.

Fans have pleaded for Smart to be suspended due to the incident, with one on social media writing, “What’s this about..? The SEC should suspend Kirby Smart!”

Still, it’s unlikely that Smart will be punished after the incident.

But if Smart were to be suspended for next week’s game, it would happen in the matchup of the week as No. 5 Georgia plays the No. 1 Texas Longhorns.

“I’m not really sure what that was but I was just trying to play my game. I didn’t really see it for real,” Van Buren said about the incident with Smart after the contest.

Georgia is currently 5-1 overall on the season and 3-1 in SEC play.
