Old school darts players were known for their love of pints – but for Mills it is crisps.

And the 34-year-old rarely knows when to packet in with eating Walkers, with his unusual diet seeing him eat just two things.

Modus Super Series commentators revealed during his match against Danny Jansen: “Mills has a very interesting diet. A diet that he even used on his wedding day.

“It involves two ingredients and that’s all he eats in his life, two ingredients – bread and crisps.

“So on his wedding day everybody else had a hog roast and he was sat there with a crisp sandwich.

“I wonder what Christmas dinners are like around his house? So everybody’s got all the turkey, the trimmings, this massive meal, and he’s just sat there with a crisp sandwich and a bit of butter.

“He’s told us that his record for most packets of crisps in a day is 46. He’s had 46 packets of crisps in one day.”

As he was revealing the shock diet, Mills hit a stunning 180 and the commentator could not resist saying: “Well that was a crisp visit wasn’t it.”

Popular Android phones from Samsung, OnePlus and more set to receive ‘game-changing’ speed and battery boost very soon

ANDROID fans are in for a mega performance boost on some of the world’s best known phone brands very soon.

Devices from the likes of Samsung, OnePlus and Xiaomi are set to launch with powerful new tech onboard in the coming weeks.

Qualcomm
New chip will power phones by several major brands[/caption]

The kit is known as Snapdragon 8 Elite – the company which many may recognise as the newest shirt sponsor for Manchester United.

Snapdragon is the processing chip many smartphones depend on to keep things running smoothly.

Their latest processing update is “the most powerful and world’s fastest mobile system-on-a-chip ever”, according to Qualcomm, the US tech giant that owns Snapdragon.

This makes more intensive tasks like gaming or AI tools super smooth and less laggy to run.

Users should also notice speedy web browsing and better camera capabilities as a result.

These sorts of activities can normally drain battery a lot faster.

But Qualcomm says its tech is a lot more efficient as well, meaning devices should last much longer before needing a recharge.

Snapdragon 8 Elite utilises the company’s Qualcomm Oryon processing power, which has been used to boost PCs up until now.

“We are so excited to bring the power of Qualcomm Oryon to our Snapdragon mobile platforms for the first time,” said Chris Patrick, Qualcomm’s senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets.

“Earlier this year we debuted it in PCs, delivering remarkable experiences and unparallel battery life to PC users, energising the industry and getting the attention of consumers.

“Today, our second generation of the Qualcomm Oryon CPU debuts in our flagship Mobile Platform – it’s a major leap forward and we expect consumers to be thrilled with the new experiences enabled by our CPU technology.”

As well as Samsung, OnePlus and Xiaomi, other big names in the world of Android are poised to launch devices with Snapdragon 8 Elite in the coming weeks.

This includes ASUS, Honor, iQOO, OPPO, RealMe and Vivo.

Why chips matter

By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun

You may think that processing chips are for geeks.

But if you hate it whenever your phone gets slow or laggy, you might want to pay more attention to this tech.

The finer details can be very complex, such as the GHz (gigahertz) which measures the speed that electronic components are able to process instructions from software whenever you so much as tap an app or play a game.

Apple has its own chips for the iPhone, as does Google for the Pixel.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon is one of the bigger players that other household names like Samsung use.

Most of the powerful smartphones around at the moment use Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 – but many newly launched phones are set to use the upgraded tech announced today, known as Snapdragon 8 Elite.

More premium phones tend to use the most recent, powerful chips on the market.

Lee Corso retirement calls intensify over ‘worrying’ College GameDay appearance following health issues

LEE CORSO has sparked more calls for him to retire from College GameDay after a worrying appearance in Week 8.

The 89-year-old was back on the hit ESPN show on Saturday after missing two weeks for health reasons.

He appeared alongside the usual crew of host Rece Davis and NFL cult hero Pat McAfee at the University of Texas.

Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howar and college head coach legend Nick Saban were also on the panel.

But it was Corso’s return to the broadcast that had everyone talking – and not for the right reasons.

He put in a concerning performance on College GameDay, appearing to be forgetful at times.

And fans took to social media to raise the issue – calling for the icon to call it a day and retire after the “worrying” appearance.

One said: “I’m gonna say it.

“You HAVE to get him off the show. He means too much to everyone’s nostalgia, childhood, and really the college football fan in general.

“Make Pat put on a Corso head and pay homage to him every weekend.

“It’s getting worse by the week and we all hate it

Another added: “I wonder if he announces his retirement at Army vs Navy this year.

“Would be the best place for it. If so, they need all the major mascots to show up for the announcement.”

A third replied: “I think you let the headgear go when Corso goes.”

And a fourth said: “It’s time for him to retire. What a run.”

A fifth commented: “I don’t think it would be bad if they had said this would be his farewell tour this season.”

College football top 25 rankings

BELOW are the top 25 rankings of college football's best programs for Week 8

  1. Texas (6-0)

  22. Illinois (5-1)
  23. Army (6-0)
  24. Michigan (4-2)
  25. Navy (5-0)

However, some fans want Corso to stay, insisting he’s earned the right to decide when he retires.

One supporter said: “Honestly, I say let him go when he feels it’s ready to go.

“Let him enjoy his time on the show, even if that’s for the rest of his life.

“He’s deserved it no?”

Another added: “I agree it sucks and I hate it for him but what if it still brings him genuine joy?

“Like don’t take that from him if it does.”

Corso had sent the Texas crowd wild after picking the Longhorns to beat their rivals, the Georgia Bulldogs.

But he got his prediction wrong, as they lost 15-30 at the Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.

Corso has been an analyst on College GameDay since it first started on ESPN in 1987.

State abruptly ends new EV charging station program after it was plagued by number of issues

A STATE has pulled the plug on its program of building new electric vehicle charging stations after the scheme was plagued with several issues.

The program, which had been in operation for the past five years, allowed four major power companies in Maryland to set up EV charging stations at government buildings across the state.

Drivers complained about broken stations that weren’t always functional[/caption]

But now the future of the scheme is in jeopardy after the Maryland Public Service Commission (PSC) ordered it to be stopped.

Authorities had raised concerns about low usage and ongoing maintenance issues.

Under the scheme, four companies pumped millions into installations, with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) alone spending approximately $15.5 million on charging stations.

Of the 372 chargers commissioned by BGE, 127 are located in areas termed “environmental justice” communities.

These are neighborhoods traditionally affected more than others by environmental issues.

Utility companies have defended their involvement in the program.

BGE spokesman Richard Yost said the scheme was started at the request of the state to fill gaps in the private charging market.

But authorities have said the returns can’t be justified for the amount of public money being spent.

“We’re dealing with ratepayer incentives here, not free resources,” Benjamin Baker, a senior commission adviser leading the electric vehicle working group, told Baltimore commercial radio station WCBM.

“It’s crucial that we ensure these installations are making a real impact.”

The program has faced multiple issues since it started almost five years ago.

A 2022 survey revealed operational problems, with only 71% of the 69 fast chargers installed by BGE being fully functional.

Many reportedly failed to meet the federal standard of 97% uptime, reflecting the percentage that the station is functional in a 24-hour period.

Electric vehicles vs gas

Pros and cons of EVs vs gasoline-powered vehicles

EV PROS:

  • Convenient (when charging at home)
  • Cheaper (depending on state or city)
  • Cheaper maintenance, due to lack of mechanical parts
  • Great for commuting
  • Reduced CO2 emissions
  • Federal and state tax incentives
  • More performance (speed, handling – depending on the make and model)

EV CONS:

  • Higher initial cost
  • Higher insurance rates
  • More frequent tire and brake replacement intervals
  • Higher curb weight (thus causing more rapid wear on crucial parts)
  • Low resale value
  • High depreciation rates
  • Lack of charging infrastructure
  • Unreliable public charging (related: slow charging times)
  • Poor winter and summer performance
  • Lack of clean energy alternatives means more “dirty energy” from coal and nuclear sources
  • Range anxiety

GAS PROS:

  • Highly developed refueling infrastructure
  • Fast refueling
  • Cheaper insurance rates, depending on make, model, and configuration
  • Established repair industry
  • Lower initial cost
  • Higher range before refueling, especially with hybrids
  • Many manufacturers produce nearly emission-less engines
  • Cheaper refueling, depending on the location

GAS CONS:

  • Finite resource (related: heavy dependence on petroleum)
  • Carbon emissions/greenhouse gases
  • Higher repair costs
  • Higher insurance rates, depending on make, model, and configuration
  • Varying costs at the pump, depending on state, city, and county

Other issues included physical damage and network connectivity issues.

BGE has admitted that just over a third of its chargers currently fall below the required uptime standard, although the company says it is actively working to improve the figure.

Maryland now has more than 100,000 registered EVs, representing a 59% increase from the start of last year.

The state hopes to achieve net zero emissions by 2045.

EV drivers are still encouraged by other means in Maryland, including tax credits and rebates.

Maryland is also expanding its charging infrastructure through federal programs such as the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which installs chargers along major highways.

It comes after a survey this summer found nearly half of EV drivers regret their purchase and want to return to gas.
