Caribbean’s safest island is ‘back on map’ as 2025 holiday spot – thanks to stunning beaches and region’s longest pool

GRENADA is often overlooked as a holiday destination – despite direct UK flights and being one of the safest islands.

And the Caribbean destination is set to be big next year, according to experts.

Two new resorts have launched this year – with two more in 2026[/caption]

Around 180,000 tourists visited the island in 2023 – compared to 1.26million visiting Aruba.

According to Grenada Tourism, while more than half of tourists are America, UK tourists are higher in luxury resorts.

Grenada Tourism CEO Petra Roach said: “The British visitor will stay longer which means their contribution is quite strong.

“We really want to continue to focus on this and grow the market more.”

New resorts have opened in this year, including Six Senses La Sagesse in the south of the island, with 56 pool suites and 15 villas.

There was also Silversands Beach House, with 28 suites on top of a cliff, so expect amazing views.

Otherwise the already opened Silversands Grand Ans is home to the Caribbean‘s longest pool, with an 100 metre infinity pool.

And new in 2026 will be a third Silversands resort as well as an InterContinental hotel.

Luxury travel experts have also said Grenada is to be a big destination for 2025.

OvationNetwork travel advisor Sylvia Lebovitch told Forbes: “With the opening of the new Six Senses La Sagasse and the Silversands Beach House, Grenada is back on the map.”

Grenada is known for being a great place for chocolate lovers, with six cocoa plantations on the island.

Every May, there is even the annual Grenada Chocolate Festival with workshops and activities as well as free samples.

It doesn’t have to be a pricey holiday either, with this year’s Post Office report finding a bottle of beer will cost you just £1.50 on Grenada.

Don’t skip out on the rum either, the Grenada being home to the oldest rum distillery in the Caribbean.

Otherwise the island is also known for its beautiful waterfalls, one of the most famous being Annadelle Falls, as well as turtle watching and diving.

With 40 beaches to choose from, make sure to visit Grand Anse Beach, named one of the World’s 50 Beaches.

You might even spot some celebs. Back in 2019, Robert Downey Jr was spotted on the island, with other famous faces including Morgan Freeman and Eric Clapton.

And Richard Branson also visited the island to celebrate the launch of Virgin flights to Grenada back in 2002.

Flights from the UK can be found from London Heathrow, taking around 11 hours.

Both British Airways and Virgin Atlantic offer the routes, with a short one-hour stop in Barbados although passengers remain on the plane.

They also both offer package holidays, along with TUI who have seven nights from £1,271pp.

Sun Travel goes to Grenada

Hayley Coyle visited Grenada earlier this year.

“A ten-hour flight away from the UK, Grenada is touted by locals and returning holidaymakers as the “safest island in the West Indies”.

“It is arguably the friendliest, too, with everyone eager to wax lyrical about their homeland.

“I was spoilt by Grenada’s intensely rich, dark chocolate — for the Land of Spice, as it’s known, is also home to six trailblazing cocoa plantations.

“Cacao — the raw, unroasted version of cocoa — is grown within 20 degrees of the equator and this island’s warm weatherrainforests and mountains provide the ideal environment for it to thrive.

“May is the perfect time for a chocoholic to visit, when the annual Grenada Chocolate Festival is in full swing.

“So, if you are looking for a treat during Easter, why not ditch the eggs and splash out on a trip to this island?”

We’ve found the cheapest Caribbean island for all-inclusive holidays, which are as little as £774pp.

But if you don’t want to go that far, here is the holiday destination a few hours from the UK dubbed the “cheaper Caribbean”.

I went on a date with a MURDERER – I thought he ticked all my boxes but my ‘avid investigator’ mum spotted a red flag

WHEN you head out on a first date, you never know how it will turn out which is all part of the excitement.

But one woman was left horrified when she realised her date was a killer.

She thought her first date was handsome and charming – until her mum discovered his secret[/caption]

Taking to social media, the woman revealed she was 18 at the time and working in a luxury hotel and she had the hots for the maintenance man working there as well.

He apparently ticked all the boxes as she stated the 25-year-old was ‘handsome, hardworking and funny.’

Over time the pair developed a friendship working together and a few months later he asked her out for a drink.

she decided it wouldn’t do any harm so the pair met up for dinner and drinks and seemed to have a great time until she asked one vital question.

She decided to ask him what his last name was which he said was ‘White’ obviously she thought nothing of it at the time and they continued with the date.

But later, whilst working, she realised he had a different name on his name tag – ‘Morrison.’

She said: “I never questioned this to him but immediately found this to be very strange…”

Later, when she got home she told her mum about the encounter, and she immediately thought it was a ‘red flag.’

Her mum later had come rushing up the stairs in a panic after she started to investigate.

“A few hours later she comes up to my room with panic saying that the very man I went on a date with had beat someone to death when he was 17, he bullied and chased the younger victim to a dead end where he acted out a prolonged and viscous attack that was so severe that the victim had to have a closed coffin,” she added.

“My mum is an avid investigator when it comes to these things, we never went out again but I did have to see him at work which made it very awkward.”

She shared her story on the Reddit forum Creepy Encounters adding other stories of people she had met who had committed crimes.

“A few years ago a friend of mine from school also stabbed a man to death, and another friend punched someone in the face and they died as a result of injury,” she revealed.

People were quick to comment on the post, claiming you should always trust your mother.

Staying safe on a first date

Keeping safe on a first date is crucial. Here are some tips to help ensure your safety:

  1. Meet in a Public Place: Opt for a well-populated, public location such as a café, restaurant, or park. Avoid secluded areas.
  2. Inform Someone: Let a friend or family member know where you’re going, who you’re meeting, and the expected time you’ll be back. Share details about your date if possible.
  3. Transport: Arrange your own transport to and from the date. This gives you control over when you arrive and leave.
  4. Keep Personal Information Private: Avoid sharing too much personal information, such as your home address or detailed work schedule, until you know the person better.
  5. Stay Sober: Limit your alcohol intake to ensure you remain in control of your actions and decisions.
  6. Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off, don’t hesitate to leave. Your safety and comfort are paramount.
  7. Have a Backup Plan: Arrange a signal with a friend to call or text you at a certain time, or plan an exit strategy if things aren’t going well.
  8. Use Technology: Share your location with a trusted friend using your phone’s location-sharing features.
  9. Keep Valuables Secure: Be mindful of your belongings and avoid bringing unnecessary valuables.
  10. Be Cautious with Online Dates: If you’re meeting someone from an online platform, ensure you’ve had ample communication beforehand and verify their identity as much as possible.

Remember, it’s perfectly okay to prioritise your safety and comfort on a first date.

One person wrote: “Wow! Your mom should be a private eye!”

Another commented: “Classic mum instinct.”

“Listen to your mum. She knows better,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “How the heck is this guy employed as maintenance man! That is so scary and I’m glad you’re ok!”

“Why was he out of jail? That seems very unsafe,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “I am so glad you stayed safe, and that your mom is as savvy as she is! She is an absolute hero.”

Alejandro Garnacho claps back with 15-point haul after being ditched by thousands of Dream Team bosses

THOUSANDS of Dream Team managers were left regretting their most recent transfers this weekend.

Alejandro Garnacho (£3.6m) was among the top five most-ditched players prior to the Gameweek 8 deadline but he immediately clapped back with an impressive 15-point haul.

Only Curtis Jones (£2.7m) earned more points across Saturday and Sunday’s Premier League games.

Many gaffers tossed away Garnacho’s 15-point haul[/caption]

The Manchester United winger scored a well-executed volley to equalise against Brentford just after half time.

Garnacho’s goal was the crowning moment of his performance but that was far from his only significant contribution.

The Argentina international caused the Bees all sorts of problems, particularly in the second half, and he registered FIVE shots on target in total – perhaps he should have converted another of his chances.

The Dream Team bosses who remained loyal to Garnacho will have been delighted by his efforts nonetheless amid what was generally a low-scoring weekend.

And the Gameweek isn’t over yet with the Red Devils due to face Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday.

Garnacho was at the heart of Man United’s second-half comeback[/caption]

The 20-year-old has climbed up to ninth in the midfield rankings having bumped his tally for the season up to 70 points.

Notably, he’s now above Luis Diaz (£4.6m), the third most-selected midfielder in the game.

Garnacho’s 15-point return has prompted plenty of early transfers and he’s currently the third most-popular recruit ahead of Gameweek 9.

Erik ten Hag’s side are due to face West Ham (league) and Leicester (Carabao Cup) next Gameweek which has to be considered a relatively favourable double header, especially after the Hammers’ capitulation at Tottenham.

Man United’s upcoming fixtures appear favourable[/caption]

In fact, a quick glance at the schedule reveals Garnacho may be a smart option for the next few Gameweeks.

Man United will play Chelsea and PAOK in Gameweek 10, Leicester again in Gameweek 11, then Ipswich and Bodo-Glimt in Gameweek 12.

Granted, Ten Hag’s side are far from the finished article themselves but most of those match-ups appear ripe with potential.

Garnacho has seven goal involvements to his name this season, four goals and three assists, while only Erling Haaland (£8.9m) and Mohamed Salah (£7.4m) have notched more shots on target.

No doubt some of the gaffers who ditched him last week will be crawling back prior to Gameweek 9.

Jaguar to STOP making two petrol motors before 2025 as part of ‘pure-electric’ era – is your favourite getting axed?

JAGUAR are just months away from ending the production of two more of their models – as the famous British brand prepares for its new all-electric era.

In total, the luxury car maker will see out 2024 having discontinued five motors, with three of them already reaching the end of the road – and they won’t sell any new cars in 2025.

However, the F-Pace will live on into 2025[/caption]

Back in July, a company spokesperson for Jaguar Land Rover announced that production of the XE, XF and F-Type sportscar had finished.

What’s more, the small E-Pace SUV and the I-Pace EV, which are both produced at their Austrian facility, will no longer be produced from December 2024.

However, one model, the F-Pace, will see its production run extended into 2025.

Jaguar Land Rover’s CEO Adrian Mardell revealed at an investor’s day earlier this year that the manufacturer is fully committed to becoming a luxury, all-electric brand.

In a statement to Top Gear, Jaguar said: “As JLR transitions to its electric future, current Jaguar production of XE, XF and F-Type came to an end in mid 2024, while the I-Pace and E-Pace in partnership with Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria will come to an end in December 2024.

“Current F-Pace production at Solihull and local manufacturing for China will continue for the foreseeable future.

“The sale of all current nameplates continues throughout 2024 and in some markets well into 2025.

“Jaguar will begin an exciting new era as a pure-electric luxury brand with vehicle production commencing at our Solihull facility from 2025.

“The Jaguar retail partners, and service network remains fully operational and will continue to deliver unparalleled levels of customer care and attention to our current Jaguar clients.”

This comes as Mardell claimed in a report by Automotive News Europe that the motors set for the chopping blocks all represent “close to zero profitability.”

Mardell said: “We are eliminating five products, all lower value.

“None of those are vehicles on which we made any money, so we are replacing them with new vehicles on newly designed architectures.”

To that end, the continuation of the F-Pace makes complete sense; JLR sold 21,943 F-Pace models last year compared to just 7,897 E-Paces and 4,874 I-Paces, according to figures posted by Autocar.

That gap between the F-Pace and the rest of Jaguar‘s range has grown further in the first half of 2024, with JLR’s sales numbers dominated by the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Defender.

With no new vehicles, ICE or EV, to hit showrooms before 2026, the firm will instead focus on used car sales and aftersale services.

In August, Managing Director Rawdon Glover told Autocar that there “will be a period where you will not be able to buy a Jaguar”.

He said: “For brands that want to operate in the luxury space, their provenance, history and iconography are really important.

“So we have reimagined the leaper for the new brand and for the vehicle.

“It will live on, but in a slightly developed format.”

Jaguar will, however, eventually replace their depleted range with at least three all-new EVs that will be unveiled in due course, with the first of these said to be an all-electric grand tourer that will rival the Porsche Taycan, lay down 575 horsepower and boast a range of over 435 miles.

The £100,000 car is all set to be fully revealed in December.

It will then be followed by an SUV and limousine model designed to rival the Bentley Bentayga and Flying Spur and both expected in 2028.

This comes as Audi launched a new hybrid that has an environmentally-friendly range of 88 miles and comes with superfast charging.

Ferrari have also been busy, having unveiled their most powerful car ever – a hybrid hypercar that will serve as the long-awaited successor to the legendary LaFerrari.

The F80, described as a “beautiful spaceship” has been unveiled by the famous brand just weeks after McLaren revealed the W1, reigniting the two manufacturers’ long-running rivalry.
