Elden Ring: How To Get Overpowered Early In The Game

Elden Ring can be pretty tough when you’re just starting out. With enemies lurking around every corner, it’s easy to feel underpowered, especially with FromSoftware’s added difficulty. It’s also very easy to come across overpowered bosses and enemies as you explore the open-ended map.

But not to worry, as you can get a head start by collecting a few key items and doing specific things early on. This will let you make your character way stronger and make the game feel much easier, letting you relax a bit as you explore freely. This is how to get overpowered in Elden Ring early on.

Smithing Stones Are Very Important for Upgrading Your Weapons

One of the most important things you can do in the early section of Elden Ring is to upgrade your weapons to multiple levels. The main way to do that is by using Smithing Stones, which you can find in the world by exploring around.

There are also their magic weapon counterparts called Somber Smithing Stones that you’ll want to get. By upgrading your weapons, you can deal way more damage to enemies, which makes everything easier. Make it a top priority to gather as many Smithing Stones as you can.

Upgrading your weapons early means you won’t feel as overwhelmed by enemies. You don’t have to level up your weapons instantly, but having the materials ready will help a lot. Plus, if you like trying out different weapons and builds, you’ll need plenty of stones.

A great way to get Smithing Stones is through Bell Bearings. There are special ones called Miner’s Smithing Stone Bell Bearings that you can find in the game. These can be given to the Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold, and they’ll let you buy Smithing Stones as much as you want.

The first Bell Bearing is located in Liurnia of The Lakes. Even though it’s not the starting area, you can reach it pretty early on if you want. Defeating the boss in the Academy Crystal Cave will get you the Bell Bearing, which lets you buy an unlimited amount of the first two Smithing Stones from the Twin Maidens.

Bleed Builds Can Be Very Overpowered and Deadly

A Bleed Build is one of the deadliest builds in the entire game.

There’s a good reason that bleed builds are pretty popular in Elden Ring. They are incredibly strong in the game, and if you’ve been playing for a while or tried PvP, you’ve probably seen how powerful the Bleed status effect can be.

By using weapons that cause the Bleed status effect on enemies, you can make them lose big chunks of health in a short time. Even if you’re not hitting them as much, the bleeding damage accumulates over time and ends up being pretty overpowered.

There are several good Bleed weapons you can get early on in Elden Ring. One of the best ones is the Reduvia dagger. To get this, you’ll need to go to the Murkwater cave and defeat an invader.

The Uchigatana is another Bleed weapon that you can find early on. If you start as the Samurai class, you’ll already have one. But you can find a second one in the Deathtouch Catacombs in Limgrave to dual-wield them and do double the Bleed buildup.

Tip
Besides Bleed, there are several other builds that can make you deadlier, including the Scarlet Rot Build.

There’s also the Bloodhound’s Fang, which is a powerful curved sword. It’s dropped by the Forlorn Hound boss in South Limgrave, near the Agheel Lake South Site of Grace. It’s a great weapon if you’re looking for a big, hard-hitting Bleed weapon.

Level Up Vigor And Pick A Good Keepsake

A good Keepsake can go a long way in Elden Ring.

When you’re leveling up in Elden Ring, you might think the best thing to do is put all your runes into leveling up Strength making your attacks stronger. While doing more damage is helpful, it’s just as important to increase your health by leveling up Vigor.

If you don’t, enemies and other players in PvP will be able to kill you in just a few hits. Surviving longer lets you deal more damage over time, making the game easier and making sure that you can take a few more big hits.

A good goal to aim for in Vigor is around 40. That way, you’ll have a nice chunk of health to survive most encounters. Just remember to balance your leveling between Strength and Vigor so that you stay strong in both areas, and these two are the most important stats for a normal playthrough, unless you’re going for a stat-specific build.

Another thing that can help you early on is picking the right Keepsake at the start of the Elden Ring. There are nine options but only a few of them will really help you become stronger. One good pick is the Golden Seed which lets you get an extra Flask right away.

You can use it for healing or mana, whichever you need more. Another option is the Crimson Amber Medallion, which gives you a slight health boost. While it’s not a lot, it still makes you a bit stronger than the other Keepsakes and is far more useful.

Rune Farming Can Give You a Good Boost Early On

Rune Farming in Elden Ring definitely helps even the playing field.

Just like Souls in the Dark Souls games, Runes in Elden Ring are everything. They let you buy stuff from merchants, but more importantly, they allow you to level up your character and upgrade your weapons. Just like with other Souslborne games, getting a lot of Runes early on is essential if you want to level up fast and make your character stronger.

Tip
Make sure you don’t lose your Runes by not being able to retrieve them after dying. Use them to upgrade your stats every now and then, instead of accumulating high amounts of it in one go.

There are many locations in Elden Ring where you can farm runes, and one of the best places is in Caelid. It’s a dangerous area, especially if you’re new to the game. With a bit of sneaking, you can get in there and start farming without too much trouble.

To get to Caelid, there are a few ways. You can walk there from Summonwater Village but be careful because it will trigger an NPC invasion, and the fight can be tough.

One easy way to teleport into Caelid is through a trap chest located in Agheel Lake inside the Dragon-Burnt Ruins. Once in Caelid, you’ll want to head towards the Farum Greatbridge Site of Grace. There, you can start farming Runes safely and quickly.
