Timothée Chalamet Must Swallow the Hard Pill Because Not in Our Wildest Dreams Did We Imagine Beetlejuice 2 Will Beat Dune 2

This year, Warner Bros. Pictures has been on a massive roll. The acclaimed studio has been consistently putting out films that captured the attention of the entire world. Back in March, the focus was on Timothée Chalamet’s Dune 2, and just last month, they ended up releasing the highly anticipated Jenna Ortega starrer, Beetlejuice 2.

Although both the iconic films were in completely different genres, they wound up crossing paths at the Box Office. Chalamet’s film may have been a major success worldwide, but it looks like Ortega’s horror comedy ended up winning a competition that no one saw coming.

Jenna Ortega’s Beetlejuice 2 beats Timothée Chalamet’s Dune 2 at the domestic Box Office

This fall, a surprising box office battle has emerged between Beetlejuice 2 and Dune 2. Both films were among the most anticipated releases of the season, but few could have predicted how closely they would compete for box office dominance.

The Tim Burton film featuring Jenna Ortega alongside Michael Keaton’s return as the iconic ghost charmed audiences with its blend of dark humor, and nostalgic appeal. Meanwhile, the Timothée Chalamet film continued the epic sci-fi saga with breathtaking visuals, intricate political drama, and the unfolding story on the desert planet of Arrakis.

Although both the films ended up being major hits, the Ortega film beat out Chalamet’s at the domestic Box Office. The film brought in $284.3 million (Via Box Office Mojo), whereas the sci-fi film pulled in $282.1 million (via Box Office Mojo).

Chalamet’s film might not have done as well as Ortega’s domestically. However, the film ended up grossing $714.4 million worldwide but the Burton film only got to $434.4 million. With both movies doing ridiculously well, fans were hoping both franchises would bring out a third installment.

However, so far it only looks like the 28-year-old’s franchise will be taking that step forward.

Shortly after the success of Timothée Chalamet’s Dune 2, the director of the franchise, Denis Villeneuve revealed that he has plans for another installment. However, he did not want to make it a trilogy. During an appearance on Vanity Fair’s Little Gold Men podcast, he ended up teasing what the film could be like.

If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.

Villeneuve admitted that this would be the last one he works on in the franchise. But he claimed that he would not completely shut the door on it, in case someone else wanted to take up the challenge. He stated, “I will not do it myself, but it could happen with someone else.”

Legendary Entertainment confirmed in April that development on Dune 3 was underway. The film ended up getting a confirmed release date set for 18th December 2026. However, so far it is still in the writing stages.

With a long way to go before the third installment of Chalamet’s beloved film, the anticipation for what it could bring only seems to be increasing. After all, the second film recently exceeded everyone’s expectations this year.
