“This fandom would’ve crucified Bakugo”: Kohei Horikoshi and My Hero Academia Fans Let Go of Bakugo’s Horrible Treatment Towards Deku Way Too Quickly

Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia is believed to be one of the best new-gen series that had it all. From a colorful and immersive world featuring superheroes and villains to a gripping storyline that took its fans on a rollercoaster of emotions. At the heart of the narrative lay Izuku Midoriya, a Quirkless boy who aimed to be the #1 Pro-Hero just like his idol, All Might.

Although the primary narrative of the show featured Deku’s journey of becoming a confident and powerful superhero, who gradually becomes the rightful owner of the One for All Quirk after he sacrifices his Quirk in his final battle against All for One and Tomura Shigaraki to save the world.

However, grave problems followed the conclusion as it was met with immense backlash, and now fans have found another reason to be upset with the Shonen series. Bakugo’s treatment of our protagonist was immensely hated and his sudden change of heart was let go by the fans way too easily.

Kohei Horikoshi’s Treatment of Deku Through Bakugo Was an Ick in the Series

Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia has been featured as one of the greatest new-gen series that took a unique step in showcasing the narrative of an underdog. To make the story more gripping, he featured Bakugo Katsuki, who ensured that he made his life miserable to the fullest extent.

However, more than a bully, he was showcased as a rival that arguably had the most complicated plot of two childhood friends turning into fierce competitors. As ardent fans would remember, like most children in the MHA world, he developed his Explosion Quirk, which was extremely powerful.

This made everyone believe that one day he was going to be one of the best superheroes, which gradually instilled a complexion of superiority in him. He considered everyone to be below him, especially Deku, who had not manifested any Quirk till high school.

Though Deku idolized his friend, Bakugo always detested him and even felt insecure when he became the successor of All Might’s One for All. Moreover, he showcased sympathy for Bakugo as a friend, even when he did not have any Quirk.

Bakugo’s change in heart and seeing Midoriya as his rival was too sudden when he looked at him as an equal and even jumped in front of Deku to save him from a lethal attack from an ‘awakened’ Tomura Shigaraki during the raid. Hence, this sudden change of heart made the fans feel divided and infuriated at the character.

Katsuki’s superior complexion and his lack of empathy for Deku, where his friend would always come to his aid, made some fans detest him. However, a major chunk of the community loves him.

Hence, some fans lashed out on X, saying that the character would have been hated if he were a woman. However, another fan came to the scene, where they let go of the concerning behavior of the character by labeling him as “misinterpreted” and “Tsundere.”

However, if “Deku was a woman I think this fandom would’ve crucified Bakugo.” The fans rushed quickly to the post where they shared their opinions in the comment section of the tweet. They commented,

Nevertheless, All Might ensured that Bakugo got a hold of his feelings, where he could see his once Quirkless friend on the same level as him. Though his actions can’t be forgiven, later he becomes a good friend of Midoriya, helping him to continue his dream of being a hero.

My Hero Academia can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
