Eiichiro Oda has always remained ominous about the true identity of the One Piece ever since the series first began. There are only a handful of people who actually know what it is. The mystery behind the most important part of the series has kept fans glued for decades. As the series progresses, it is becoming more and more evident that the mangaka has planned everything to the tee.
The surrounding mystery may still take years to uncover but there are multiple theories surrounding it. These theories alone have carried out any prospect of what the actual final treasure could be. Throughout the years, there have been many people who tried asking have never gotten a solid answer out of the mangaka either. However, the so-called God of foreshadowing isn’t one to shy away from dropping hints.
The True One Piece
For the longest time, fans have been speculating as to what the One Piece can be. From treasure to the bizarre ideas of the power of friendship, there was much to be thought about and little to be confirmed. The idea that the final treasure of the series could be something so trivial as the power of friendship had angered many fans. However, Eiichiro Oda wouldn’t let that pass.
The treasure of One Piece must be there as a ‘thing.’
Mayumi Tanaka, the voice behind Luffy, actually asked the mangaka about the treasure and he confirmed that it wouldn’t be something so vague and cliche as that. This had given fans a breath of relief seeing that their journey of over a 1000 chapters and episode, spanning for over two decades, would not be in vain.
On the other hand, there was another theory that suggest something even bigger for the One Piece. From actual treasure to phenomenons as a whole, it could be anything. Although Oda may he hinted at what it could actually be.
Eiichiro Oda Alluded to the Final Treasure
There has been a theory regarding what the One Piece could be. Fans have pondered upon that very mystery and the most ideal conclusions also seems to be a little too obvious. The four seas are slowly submerging the Red Line. This was a fact even Dr. Vegapunk refered to, claiming that the sea level has gradually been rising. In an interview with One Piece: Blue Grand Data File (via The Grand Line), Eiichiro Oda alluded to something in a similar context.
The secret of the naming of the title One Piece.
He was asked about what the one secret was that he hadn’t told anyone. The mangaka answered in the most ambiguous manner, confirming that no one truly knew why he named the series what he did. The very thought has fans pulling their hair out in frustration.
Whether it be confirmed or not, it can be imagined that the One Piece is the combination of every sea and waterbody taking over the world of the series, watching as every land submerges in its wake. This unison could then bring everyone together if even against the World Government and its many flaws.
One Piece is available to read on Viz Media.
