During your cooking adventures in Starfield, you may be faced with the question of how to get the Shepherd’s Pie recipe. There are many food and drink items in the game, and each one offers a specific buff that can help you on your journey.
Just like in Skyrim and Fallout, cooking can become an integral part of your build, and you may find yourself constantly hunting for resources to throw into the pot. The Shepherd’s Pie is very useful in the game, and if you’ve been wondering how to unlock the recipe for this dish, we’ve got you covered!
How to Get the Shepherd’s Pie Recipe in Starfield?
Before you break out the chef’s hat, you may want to check if you have the recipe for the dish you intend to prepare. These recipes are found in the world, and some can only be acquired through specific traits. The good thing is that you can find some ready dishes when exploring Starfield, so you can have a bit of a taste before you hunt down the recipe.
The Shepherd’s Pie is not a rare item, as it can be purchased from vendors, and you can test out the effects. This dish would fall into the Food and Drink category in your inventory as it affects both your Health and Experience.
When consumed, it will restore 15 points of Health and also give you a 2% XP gain boost for the next 60 minutes. The dish weighs very little, just 0.50, so even if you haven’t buffed your carrying capacity, you can move around with a bunch of these on hand.
They are not the most expensive of items in the game, coming in at 295 Credits per purchase. But, you know, what’s better than cheap food? Free food!
Well, not entirely free, as you will need to spend time and effort tracking down the recipe followed by the resources to craft this meal. But, after the initial hunt for one of the Starfield recipes, you can experience a sharp boost to your leveling capabilities.
Where to Find the Recipe for Shepherd’s Pie in Starfield?
Typically, such recipes are passed down by family members. However, seeing as simply finding your parents in New Atlantis is an adventure by itself, you’re better off hunting down this recipe in the lower levels of Jemison. Given the planet is the headquarters of the United Colonies, you’ll reach this settlement very soon and can hunt down this satiating meal.
Once you land at Jemison’s starport, make your way to Jemison Mercantile and TerraBrew. Here, you can use the small elevator to descend to the lower levels of the settlement. Once you step out of the elevator, make your way to The Well, which is also where you will find the House of the Enlightened, one of the three main religions in Starfield.
As you’re making your way to The Well, you will encounter a small eatery known as Kay’s House. Not only can you purchase ready-to-eat Shepherd’s Pies from this vendor, but with a little snooping, you can also find the recipe to make them for yourself.
To find the recipe, head into the kitchen area of the restaurant and then head up the stairs on your right. At the top, you’ll reach Kay’s Apartment. Enter this apartment, and you will find a book on a desk near the front door titled The New Atlantian 05.
If you’ve upgraded your Pickpocket skill, you can also snatch the key off Kay and head into the locked door on the left of the entrance to access the second floor of the restaurant. Read this book, and you will have added the Starfield Shepherd’s Pie recipe to your list.
How to Cook Shepherd’s Pie in Starfield?
Cooking, like all other kinds of crafting in Starfield, can only be performed by accessing a specific station. While creating consumables for Status Effects may happen at the Pharmaceutical Lab, you will want to head to the Cooking Station to fill your tummy.
You also have a physical copy of the recipe in your inventory in case you need to read the required ingredients, but you can always sell this as the recipe is now permanently on your cooking menu.
Now that you’re ready to get cooking, you will need one of each of the following ingredients:
- Red Meat
- Onion
- Carrot
- Spice
- Potato
You can find these all over in Starfield or even buy them from vendors. Once you’ve crafted enough Pies, you can space out their consumption to have a constant XP gain boost and earn levels quickly early on in the game.
