London Underground lines suspended and trains delayed after signal fault

Commuters board a Piccadilly Line underground train in Stratford, east London, on October 4, 2023. Workers on the London Underground suspended their latest round of strike action over pay and conditions after a breakthrough in talks but rail passengers faced fresh disruption. Unions across the UK economy have held strike action since last year to push for better pay and conditions, due to the soaring cost of living. Commuters face a chaotic start to the week after London Underground lines have been suspended and trains delayed following a signalling fault.

Make your coffee extra strong if you travel on the District and Metropolitan lines or the London Overground this morning.

The Tube and the Overground are partly suspended because of signalling issues at Rickmansworth and Kew Gardens.

Chiltern Railways trains between Amersham and London Marylebone have also been hit by cancellations and severe delays of up to 60 minutes. The issue is not expected to be resolved until 9am.

Elsewhere, the A1(M) has been closed near Welwyn Garden City since midnight after a crash and ongoing investigation work. The smash happened between junctions J4 and J5 northbound.
