Jujutsu Kaisen Ends: Every Mangaka Who Paid Tribute to Gege Akutami’s Magnum Opus

The final chapter of Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen is finally out and it has brought the end of an action-packed and stressful era with it. Jujutsu Kaisen was one of the top-ranking Shonen manga during its serialization, but now that it has ended, everyone has an opinion on how much the author has tortured them.

Jujutsu Kaisen might have one of the most controversial endings, but its impact should never be underestimated. Did Akutami kill countless characters, including everyone’s favorite hunk? Yes. But it will remain a landmark series nonetheless and the comments from Akutami’s fellow mangakas prove it even more.

The final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen was published on September 29, 2024, in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. The same volume published the comments of several mangakas, who congratulated Gege Akutami on his best work yet. While some comments simply admire the author for his genius, others are bizarre yet relatable statements on the manga. Akutami thanked everyone for their support and claimed they would do their best to prepare for the next challenge.

The authors who congratulated Akutami on his serialization included Kouji Miura (Blue Box), Kouki Ishikawa (Hakutaku), Kota Kawae (Nue’s Exorcist), Yusei Matsura (The Elusive Samurai), Yuto Suzuki (Sakamoto Days), Takamasa Moue (Akane-banashi), Takeru Hokazono (Kagurabachi), Hitsuki Gondaira (Mission: Yozakur Family), Santa Mitarashi (Shinobi Undercover), Ken Wakui (Astro Royale), Genko Ono (Hima-Ten!), Osamu Nishi (Ichi the Witch), Shun Numa (Super Psychic Policeman Chojo), Yoshifumi Tozuka (Undead Unluck), Shuhei Miyazaki (Me & Roboco), Tadatoshi Fujimaki (Kill Blue), Shoichi Usui (Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi), Kenta Shinohara (Witch Watch) and Daiki Ihara (Yokai Buster Murakami).

I love the expressions, dialogue, and emotions that you created, Akutami-san! Congratulations on six and a half years of amazing work!

-Yoshifumi Tozuka (author of Undead Unluck)

Getting Todo into my life has definitely made it much better. My weekly pleasures are disappearing one by one…

-Takeru Hanozono (Kagurabachi)

Takeru Hanozono hit the mark with their comment, as the finale of the manga indicates the end of another series that made fans wait for each weekend. But not all comments are as wholesome.

I wanted to smell the inside of Jogo’s earplugs. Probably a sweet fragrance of earth like bizen pottery.

-Hitsuji Gondaira (Yozakura Family)

After serializing for over six years, Jujutsu Kaisen has received a warm departure from Gege Akutami’s fellow mangakas.

“You are the most like Sukuna”

Among the comments of all the authors, the one made by Kouki Ishikawa was probably the most relatable:

Akutami Sensei, you have used your manga powers to slice up everyone in my generation who wants to create a dark fantasy story. You are the most like Sukuna.

-Kouki Ishikawa (author of Hakutaku)

Indeed, calling Gege Akutami Sukuna is probably the most apt description ever. The author is no less than the King of Curses, judging from the way fans have posted about Jujutsu Kaisen’s ending all over social media. From Gojo’s death to a rushed ending, the finale of the manga was extremely underwhelming.

I was continually pummeled by your logical yet illogical manga greatness. Congrats on the end of the serialization.

-Shun Numa (author of Super Psychic Policeman Chojo)

Shun Numa was not afraid to express that he was often confused by the chapters of Gege Akutami’s hit series. The curse techniques and powers of some characters were extremely complicated and even long-time fans ended up complaining about them. The power system of Jujutsu Kaisen is definitely not for casual readers.

The author of Witch Watch, on the other hand, wants Akutami to rest up but return to the magazine, which he calls by a very specific name.

Congratulations, Akutami Sensei. Get some rest and please make your way back to Hell St.

-Kenta Shinohara (author of Witch Watch)

Jujutsu Kaisen manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
