The Culling Game Arc has introduced us to an interesting character cast with reincarnated sorcerers from the Heian Era. Especially names like Uro, Kashimo, Angel, and Yorozu added so much depth to the plot. While these characters interest a good number of fans, one of them stands out because of his brutal history with Sukuna. Readers have been able to catch glimpses of the brutal history between Uro and Sukuna with some very brief hints and flashbacks, in Chapter #238.

Their conflict involved the Sun Moon and Stars Squad, Abe Clan’s elite force, and other shadowy clans like Fujiwara and Sugawara. This cryptic foreshadowing of the Heian Period generated much hype among fans. Still, Jujutsu Kaisen has yet to fully elaborate on such an intriguing historical setting.

A prequel would not only satisfy fans’ curiosity about Sukuna’s past but also enhance the viewing experience of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime as a whole. Shedding some light on the mysteries of the Heian Era will help Gege Akutami find ways to add even more depth to his series’s world-building and character development. The connections between Sukuna, Uro, and the other historical figures surely hold some shocking revelations, and adding them would make Jujutsu Kaisen an expertly constructed dark fantasy of all time.

The series always had something enormous in the character of Ryomen Sukuna, but yet he remains unknown to this very date. Flashbacks from the Heian era teased how complicated he really is, leaving all fans wondering, and not knowing anything to be precise. The conclusion we got in the final chapter heightened the expectations for a greater understanding of how Sukuna became such a monstrous entity.

A prequel would give the opportunity to make Sukuna a more human character. There are still so many questions surrounding the past of Sukuna. He never mentioned his childhood, even when his soul had been broken into twenty pieces under some circumstances in the Heian Era. Also, how did he split his soul into twenty pieces? Who won him, and through what means?

Another question left unsaid is about the loyalty shown by Uraume, and why she did not hesitate to die for Sukuna. The answers to these mysteries will form the perfect prequel for the whole Jujutsu Kaisen lore. With a prequel, Akutami can unravel the threads of Sukuna’s enigmatic persona, making him an even more compelling character and the final boss of all villains.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
