Superman is one of the biggest and highly anticipated projects from James Gunn’s DC Studios and this is David Corenswet’s most important work in his career. The role is a legacy passed down from generations of actors, and now that it is his turn, he will certainly bring his own twist to it.
Even though Superman is a massive franchise globally loved by fans, it still needs to be enjoyable for the actor to watch. It’s not uncommon for celebrities to dislike the works they have done in the past, so this is a challenge to both Corenswet and Gunn.
David Corenswet Genuinely Loves His Horror Movie Pearl
David Corenswet will be portraying Clark Kent/Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming movie, but before this, he already starred in one of the most interesting low-budget A24 films called Pearl (2022). It starred Mia Goth and was helmed by Ti West.
The actor played the Projectionist who took a liking on Goth’s character. Corenswet revealed in an interview with Manly Things (sort of) Podcast that he truly liked the movie.
That was a film that I watched and purely as an audience member… it was pretty f—king cool.
Many actors are very critical of their works and so it is not strange that some of them despise their own performances. Corenswet’s role in the horror movie had so much nuance that it satisfied him as an actor and viewer.
Even though the film wasn’t of the same magnitude as Superman, it delivered a narrative that was both compelling and thought-provoking. Viewers love a good combination of excitement and complexity, and if Pearl was able to scratch that itch, then Superman would have to give his best shot.
This is Corenswet’s biggest project so far, and he certainly wants to see the film and be able to enjoy it the way the general audience would. But, what’s more important is that hopefully, he ends up loving his performance in the comic book adaptation.
Understandably, there’s a lot of pressure – he will be compared to the likes of Christopher Reeves and Henry Cavill – but as long as he is satisfied with the effort he has put in, he will be fine.
James Gunn’s Superman is Now in Post-Production
Superman started filming early this year in February and wrapped up around July, which means they have ample time to work on the visual effects and render the designs needed for a spectacular show. The one-year gap will take off the insane pressure of working on a massive blockbuster project.
Hopefully, the upcoming superhero movie will live up to everyone’s expectations. The amount of preparation that Gunn and his team did has been nothing short of extraordinary as evident in the frequent updates he has provided fans.
Corenswet has pretty much proved in Pearl that he could bring a lot of depth and gravitas to the role of Superman.
Superman arrives in theaters on July 11, 2025. Pearl is currently available to watch on Netflix.
