Sandra Bullock, the definitive star and America’s certified sweetheart has not only possessed the collective love of the movie fandom since the 1990s but also owned the box office with her unfailing blockbusters (erasing Speed 2: Cruise Control from the history books). However, what makes Bullock most special beyond the screen is her relentless charm and sunshine personality.
In hindsight, the Oscar-winning star has perhaps bewitched most of Hollywood with her undeniable, magnetic on-screen presence. From starring in one of the highest-rated films of all time to being the highest-paid actress in the industry (twice!), there is nothing that can stop Sandra Bullock from dominating Hollywood – on-screen and off.
And so, it isn’t that unbelievable for her to leave even the most influential filmmaker alive shocked by her antics.
The Queen of Bad Lunches & Wholesome Personalities
When asked about Sandra Bullock, her co-stars and ex-castmates have nothing but good stories to tell about the actress. Bullock herself is impossible not to like as a person, even when she is busy concocting life-threatening calorie-infused snacks, suffering from a monumental sugar crash in between takes, and doing a Vanity Fair cover profile interview on set, all together at once.
Bullock’s ability to find amusement in the simplest of pleasures – namely, threatening her casting director by drinking Fresca with a makeshift straw made out of Twizzlers – had led even the comedic legend Denis Leary to draw a fitting comparison between America’s Sweetheart and The King himself:
“You’re getting to be more like Elvis every day. That is dangerously close to the peanut-butter-and-fried-banana thing,” he claimed after watching her crush potato chips, tuna salad, and mayo in between two doughy slices of bread, foregoing lettuce and tomato entirely, and proceeding to enjoy the disastrous lunch in full sincerity. He was later recorded saying, “If she has a skeleton in her closet, she probably put it there.”
Sandra Bullock Leaves Irwin Winkler Perplexed
“A fun girl to work with” is not the only compliment that Sandra Bullock leaves in her wake. During filming her 1995 techno-thriller The Net, Irwin Winkler (the director) witnessed an unusual occurrence for a young actress on the rise – Bullock kissed every crew member on set goodnight after the shoot wrapped at the end of every single day of filming. This alone was enough to make one ponder: “Is this chick for real?”
Over the years, Sandra Bullock’s talent, movie ratings, and box office earnings have spoken for themselves, making her the world’s highest-paid actress in 2010 and 2014. Her 2013 film Gravity raked in 10 Academy Award nominations out of which it won 7, including Best Actress in a Leading Role for Bullock – her first and only Oscar to date.
As the peppy and zealous actress now turns 60, the Miss Congeniality star shows no signs of stopping. One can only hope how many more surprises are left in store for unaware directors and producers and if those stories will ever make their way into a Vanity Fair cover profile interview in the future.
