For Channing Tatum, working in a Quentin Tarantino movie was a dream come true, but being cast in The Hateful Eight was far from a straightforward process for the actor. Tatum was only a newcomer to the Tarantiono Universe, and he found himself surrounded by seasoned actors who had worked with the director in their past projects.

The table read involved amazing and talented actors like Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, and Bruce Dern. So naturally, it was an intimidating experience for Tatum. He shared more about the situation in an interview with Access.

So, it was definitely nerve-racking. Even the table read was nerve-racking, man. [Samuel L. Jackson] was the only person who I’d worked with before. I met Kurt [Russell] very quickly one time. And that’s really it.

The part, I think, was written for someone a little older. And I think Quentin kind of had to have some time to figure out if he could make it work with some of the other characters.

Tatum had initially doubted that he would be cast in the film because the role was originally written for an older actor, but Tarantino ultimately adjusted the role to suit the actor and he was surprised by this gesture.

Being in The Hateful Eight wasn’t just about working with Tarantino, but making up for another movie titled Gambit that was shelved. He was disappointed by the news of never bringing this superhero project to life, and missing out on a Tarantino project would add more salt to his wounds. So, in a conversation on The Tonight Show, the actor revealed the strange things he did to secure the role.

I basically sent about an email a day for about a month just threatening any other actors that might be up for the role. I was just praying that no one really tough was up for the role.

Tatum’s Journey to landing a role in The Hateful Eight is quite an inspirational yet comedic story. The actor not only fulfilled a personal dream but also reaffirmed his place in Hollywood. Moreover, working alongside legendary actors in a movie that grossed $156 million must have instilled unshakable confidence in Tatum.

The Hateful Eight is currently streaming on Netflix.
