The Fourth of July was declared a federal holiday when Congress passed the law over 150 years ago.

Consumers are advised to mail their packages or conduct urgent banking transactions before or after Thursday.

WHAT’S CLOSED?

Due to the federal holiday, banks and post offices will shut down for the day.

All post offices will be closed for retail transactions on July 4, the USPS confirmed to USA TODAY.

There will be no regular residential or business mail deliveries on the holiday.

Branches of Capital One, Bank of America, PNC, Truist, CitiBank, and JPMorgan Chase will also be closed, the companies confirmed to USA TODAY.

However, Capital One Cafes will remain open for regular business hours.

UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on July 4 and some UPS store locations may be closed, according to the company’s website.

Consumers are advised to confirm with local stores for specific hours of operation.

However, UPS Express Critical service will be available, according to the company website.

Most of FedEx’s pickup and delivery services will not be available on July 4.

FedEx Office hours will also be modified.

Again, consumers should check with their local stores for information about their specific hours.

FedEx Custom Critical, however, is available 24/7, according to the company.

STILL OPEN

Grocery stores that will remain open on July 4 include BJ’s Wholesale, Publix, Safeway, Stop and Shop, Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, and Wegmans.

Stores that will be open depending on specific locations are ALDI, Kroger, Ralphs, Sam’s Club, and Trader Joe’s.

Consumers who need access to a convenience store on the holiday can visit Dollar General, Rite Aid, and Walgreens.

Kohl’s and Macy’s will also be open for their regular operating hours.

Meanwhile, shoppers are threatening to pull their memberships from one big retailer.

Sam’s Club members slammed the retailer for a little-known policy payment policy that charges the wrong card.

Others didn’t realize that the retailer is requiring shoppers to pay extra to shop during certain hours.
