“Absolutely should be a hold press”: New Survey Makes a Change to Helldivers 2’s Stims a Certainty, But Will it Actually Work?

In a chaotic and action-packed game like Helldivers 2, Stims are a lifeline for players. When you or your teammates are swarmed by enemies, stims can come in clutch with their health regeneration and a burst of infinite stamina.

Unfortunately, as the galactic enemies of the Super Earth Democratic force continue to grow stronger, the current Stim mechanics aren’t nearly enough. Players are frustrated, but the team at Arrowhead might have a solution brewing.

Stims Are Good, but They Could Be Better

The players of Helldivers 2 rely on Stims for a quick recovery in the heat of battle. There’s a huge issue with the current design, though: it’s way too easy to accidentally consume a Stim.

Wasting a Stim can be a face-palm moment, but it comes back to sting you even harder when you’re later stuck in a critical moment where a Stim could be the difference between life and death.

Plus, their only use is providing health regeneration when health is low. With all of the new enemies that will be arriving in the future, Stims need to have a lot more use.

It looks like Arrowhead’s team has heard players’ frustrations out, as evidenced by the recent survey conducted on the official Helldivers 2 Discord channel.

The survey asked players whether they would prefer the ability to use Stims even when their health is full, which would regenerate their stamina instead. There was no competition, as the community’s response was overwhelmingly positive.

The Helldivers 2 Community Knows What It Wants

Not only was the Helldivers 2 community in full agreement with the proposed change, but many suggested ideas on top of that to make Stims as useful and easy as possible to use.

As the poll suggested, being able to use Stims when your health is full to regenerate stamina would be a huge game changer.

One of the replies to the post also suggests that the button to use a Stim be made a hold-press, rather than a press.

This will prevent a lot of issues with accidentally using Stims in the heat of the moment without meaning to.

Plus, with the added functionality of Stims, you’ll have to really think about it before using one.

Regardless of what happens, the staff putting up such a poll suggests they’re observing discourse in the community and looking for key pieces of feedback they can implement into the game, and that’s a great sign.
